[phpBB Weekly] Any questions for DavidMJ?

Postby webmacster87 » 11 Oct 2007, 07:29

Well, here we go again. This weekend, we've got phpBB Developer DavidMJ on phpBB Weekly (between him and Highway of Life, I'll probably have a hard time with the two different Davids!) to talk all about phpBB3. Do you have any questions that you would like us to ask him? (Or, if you plan to be on the show live, perhaps you would like to call in and ask them yourself!)

This is a rare chance to get to talk virtually face-to-face with one of the phpBB Developers, make your voice heard!

i have a question for davidmj.

looking on the forums, it looks like my idol techie-micheal is a really smart guy, especially when it comes to security. he helped form that security investigation team, right? so my question to davidmj, does techie-micheal help with security on the teams, or specifically, with the devs?

i <3 techie-micheal!

Hi Douglas,

It is commonly known, that phpBB 2.0.x starts choking on large boards at some million posts, while phpBB 3.0 continues running smooth on very large boards. I have understood, that this has something to do with the database structure in phpBB 3.0. A more detailed explanation about this would be much appreciated, perhaps - if possible - some information about how this optimation process has taken place development wise.

- Thank you for this offer not to resist! :D

We will be bringing DavidMJ on the show again, hopefully sometime in November (though no date has been set yet). He had a family emergency which prevented him from being on episode #034. But we'll be sure to ask him any questions you leave here when he comes on!

What is the advantage of supporting relatively obscure DBMS (e.g. Firebird)?
Is there any drawback to using "standard" SQL as opposed to the extensions that everyone has drempt up?
