Welcome to the first edition of the Subspace Communication Newsletter

by Highway of Life on Wednesday, May 30th, 2007 10:39

Hello and welcome to the first edition of the new Subspace Communications Newsletter.

This will begin as a monthly publication and will eventually move to a bi-weekly or weekly publication if I can continue to get my ducks in order or find a good way to automate the Newsletter. Each publication will have a little something for everyone, from stats and announcements, to MOD releases and developments. If you don?t want to receive any emails at all from us, Click here to go to your User Preferences and set "Administrators can email me" to No.

In the near future, we will be adding some preferences to allow you to set the frequency of the emails: Never, Major Announcements, Monthly, or weekly.

If you are a MOD author, and would like to submit your MOD for consideration as the next featured MOD, please PM me a request.
This month we have some popular MODs to share with you: .::Frans::. created a nice update script for people who are stuck with Beta5, Igor shares with us his Quick Reply that is currently in development. -- A nice simple solution for those that don?t want the feature-packed Lew21 Quick Post MOD. And Handyman gives us some details about the latest release of the ChatMOD, which has received more than double the number downloads of any other MOD listed for download on StarTrekGuide.

If you have any questions about this publication, have a bug report or suggestion, please let me know through a PM or by clicking the "Reply" button you see below.

Enjoy!! :good:

phpBB3 RC1 released!

by Acyd Burn on Sunday, May 20th, 2007 10:02

Hello,

We are very pleased to announce the availability of the phpBB3 RC1 package. This is the first release candidate which is meant to become the Gold release if no more bugs or problems arise. Of course there may be more than one release candidate.

With this release we will give full support, allow uploading language packs as well as modifications and styles. Please note that during the first few weeks support questions may not be answered as fast as with the 2.0.x line. We also only give support to those having a clean RC1 installation, previous conversions or updates will not be supported. We encourage only those running the release candidate wanting to test out the new version, it is still recommended to wait for the full release; after all this is a release candidate.

phpBB3 B5 -> phpBB3 RC1 Upgrade

by ..::Frans::.. on Monday, May 28th, 2007 20:42

Please be aware that phpBB.com does not support phpBB3 installations prior to RC1, so if at all possible, you should install RC1 fresh (then run the supplied/supported phpBB2 -> phpBB3 converter), but for those of you who are stuck running a Beta5 board that you just *must* update, we?ve created a small tutorial and script on upgrading to RC1.

Welcome PM MOD

by DualFusion on Monday, May 28th, 2007 19:36

Description: This MOD allows the admin to specify a subject and message that will be sent to newly registered users on their first login. For example, when a user registers, the PM will not be sent until they login. This will reduce your database size for those users that supply fake emails, or make a mistake.

Current Features: Of course, there are features. Dynamic Variables are predefined replacement words that will be automatically be configured to your website and users. Those variables are {USERNAME}, {USER_IP}, {USER_REGDATE}, {USER_EMAIL}, {SITE_NAME}, and {SITE_DESC}. Other features include enabling and disabling the mod, specifying which user will "send" the message, bbcodes and smileys enabled, and best of all a preview message configured to you when you submit your message.

Future Features: Some of the features that may be added by the following week may be any or Dynamic Variables that you wish, Dynamic Variables in the subject, its own very database table for longer messages, and probably a very cool "thing" (not really a feature) if I get the chance.

Simple Quick Reply MOD

by eviL3 on Monday, May 28th, 2007 20:02

Description: This modification will add a hidden quick reply form to the bottom of the viewtopic page. It adds a "Quick reply" image next to "Post reply", that will display the quick reply form when clicked. The goal of this MOD is not to offer as many features as possible, it's built to be as simple as possible.

Notes: Though this MOD is very simple, many thangs can be done to fit your needs through the source of the code. For example, currently the button will make the quick reply box appear, but with some changes, the button can disappear and the box will forever be shown :D

Complete list of phpBB 3.0.x template variables

by Highway of Life on Wednesday, May 30th, 2007 10:00

You can browse around the forum and view the variables specifically for the page you are viewing.
If you want to login to view the MCP or UCP, the user/pass is: test/testing

The list of variables on each page is so long I decided to drop the language variables from displaying by default.
You can show the language variables on any page at any time by adding &lang=true

The list will also show the actual strings examples if you use &plain=true (except for examples longer than 500 chars)
By default, it will (try to) show you the actual example.
