Glacier Style

by Ika on Wednesday, March 26th, 2008 22:01

Featured Style: Glacier
Style Author: Ika

Synopsis: Glacier style was released after nearly 3 months of development in late January. It was the first solo style project released by ShadowFlames Development (Ika). The style features a clean, floating fixed-width interface. A popular blue and white color scheme combined with a number of advanced features makes this style one of the best.

The style is available in two packages depending on user needs. In the premium edition, users enjoy stunning imagery in the style created by Blatte's 'Smokey-Blue' background. Additionally, forum owners can add unlimited rotating backgrounds behind the site logo and 3 rotating images are included with the release. The Lite Edition is similar but is geared towards the lower bandwidth forums. It features a solid background and only a single header image for extremely quick page load speeds. Both versions of the style feature 100% CSS Drop Down Navigation Menus which include common forum functions as well as customizable links to use for jut any purpose.

Glacier has been hailed by users across the phpBB community as one of the most professional, fully-customizable, and most quality designed phpBB3 templates available today. Compatible with most MODs available for proSilver Glacier is sure to fit just about any need.

Additionally, a little more exciting news for Glacier enthusiasts, subspace chatter received on STG indicates something radical has happened to the look of the Glacier interface. Be sure to look for an exciting variation of Glacier coming soon to a forum near you!

You can experience Glacier by getting started here: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4672

phpBB Londonvasion 2008

by Marshalrusty on Saturday, March 29th, 2008 04:40

Subject: Londonvasion 2008

Marshalrusty wrote:It gives me great pleasure to announce Londonvasion 2008, the first ever live phpBB conference. We are very excited to present you with this unique opportunity to meet fellow community members, as well as the phpBB team.

The conference will be held on Sunday July 20th in a hotel across the street from London Heathrow Airport (UK). Doors will open at 9:00 AM and the event will last throughout the day.

We welcome speakers and presentations on any phpBB related topic; please contact me if you are interested. A full list of planned discussions will be made available prior to the event. Please ask any questions in the following topic: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=859905. You may also contact me in private for confidential concerns.

Where is the event being held?
The conference will be held at the Radisson Edwardian Heathrow Hotel which is located directly across from London Heathrow Airport (LHR). There are around a dozen other hotels in the area, so you should have no problem finding a room if necessary.

If you plan on using the London Underground for transportation, the closest station also happens to be at LHR. Travel from the airport and Underground station to the hotel is available via a ?4 shuttle bus which runs every 15 minutes. The shuttle also stops at the other hotels located on Bath Rd and can therefore be used to travel between hotels ? make sure to confirm this when booking. Alternatively, taxi fare from the airport is around ?7.

How do I register?
There will be a registration fee of £10 per person for the event. The strongly preferred method of payment is Paypal, however you may contact me to make alternate arrangements if absolutely necessary.

This is an unavoidable measure to prevent bogus bookings and the reselling of tickets, which is strictly prohibited. To further prevent "ticket scalping", each paid registration will have an id, name and email associated with it. If you are registering for someone else or for multiple individuals, please include the names and email addresses in the "Notes" section of the payment. To change any of the registration information, you will need to contact me.

All proceeds will be used to offset the cost of the event.

In order to give everyone an equal opportunity to register, several days are being made available for questions. An update (based on the questions asked) and the registration page URL will be posted here soon.

What should I bring?
Wifi will be available, so you are welcome to bring any portable internet capable device. Cameras (photo, video) will be allowed.

Due to the quantity of planned attendees, there is expected to be a deficit of sustenance. In other words, the hotel will not be able to accommodate the entire conference with food. We ask that everyone brings something for themselves and also something to share with others. This can include crisps (chips), drinks, extra sandwiches, etc.

Parking
On site parking is available for a fee of ?10 per day. This may be decreased depending on the amount of spaces available.

Advertising
Several methods of live advertising are available. If you are interested, please contact me for more information via any of the methods listed in my profile.

Updates
Details on how to register will be posted here soon. Please also see the discussion topic to ask any questions or to read the answers provided.

Handyman and I will be in attendance. We hope to see you there!
If you have any questions, you can either reply to this topic or contact Marshalrusty (link above)

Have you Checked out phpBB Weekly Yet?

by webmacster87 on Monday, March 24th, 2008 20:01

If you haven't had the opportunity to discover phpBB Weekly yet, now is the best time to do so. phpBB Weekly is the weekly live podcast that exclusively covers phpBB from the user's point of view, co-hosted by Star Trek Guide's own David Lewis (Highway of Life), along with former MOD Team member Douglas Bell (webmacster87/Fountain of Apples). We've now had over fifty episodes of some of the best phpBB coverage on the internet. Check out the best of some of our recent episodes:

phpBB Weekly #043
In addition to celebrating the release of phpBB3 "Olympus," we feature an exclusive interview with Johan Janssens, lead developer of Joomla!, who talks about the upcoming RokBridge integration between the two platforms.

phpBB Weekly #044
This episode takes a look back at some of phpBB Weekly's best and most interesting moments from the year 2007.

phpBB Weekly #045
Our full recap of phpBB's major events in the year 2007, surly one of the biggest years in phpBB's history.

phpBB Weekly #049
We recover the public release of the MODs Manager (beta), and share a comprehensive tutorial on BBCode.

phpBB Weekly #050
In celebration of fifty episodes, we feature an exclusive interview with Patrick O'Keefe, owner of phpBBHacks.com and author of the latest book about online communities.

phpBB Weekly #054
We took an opportunity to look at phpBB from a somewhat humorous perspective on this episode, which is still definitely worth listening to.

phpBB Weekly #055
Superb style author Scott Stubblefield joins us for an excellent episode exclusively dedicated to talking about styles.

phpBB Weekly is recorded live every Saturday at 12:00 PM EDT (16:00 UTC/GMT) via a service called TalkShoe. Anyone can listen to the show live while it is recorded, participate in the show's own chat room, or even call in on the show to ask a question or share a comment with us. The episodes are also released in podcast form on our website, phpBBWeekly.net, and the show's official discussion forum is hosted here on Star Trek Guide.

In addition, we are currently running a Listener Survey and Prize Giveaway. Simply fill out a short survey about our show and you will be entered in a drawing for a number of neat phpBB-related prizes! (See the linked page for more details.)

We hope that you'll take the opportunity to check out phpBB Weekly, and be sure to spread the word.
