Welcome to Star Trek Guide, home of phpBB Academy

A Warm Welcome
Hi there! Welcome to phpBB Academy at Star Trek Guide(STG).
STG is a forum with endless programmers/developers, designers, and just people who know it all about phpBB3.
Star Trek Guide was founded on May 8th, 2006 by two brothers: David (Highway of Life) and Francis (Handyman) Lewis.
The site was created to be dedicated as a Star Trek fan site with a Gallery and Bulletin Board.
While searching for ?The Perfect Bulletin Board?, Handyman and Highway of Life stumbled upon the
Development of phpBB3, which at the time was in pre-Beta stage with Beta 1 release imminent.
In an attempt to help speed the release of Beta 1, the Founders began supporting phpBB3 on STG,
assisting MOD Authors and write MODs for phpBB3 of their own.

As Highway of Life and Handyman became intimately involved with the MODing community for phpBB3, it eventually led to Highway of Life and Handyman?s invitation to the phpBB.com Modifications Team.

Since then, STG?s focus has been on every aspect of contribution development for phpBB3, from Hacks and add-ons, MODs, Styles, Scripts and Smiley packs to to Tutorials and How-To?s.

STG in General
Over time, the development community of phpBB3 has grown a lot and STG has become a very popular
destination to learn about phpBB3 coding techniques as well as improving MODs and gaining feedback from experienced programmers.
Thats why STG earned a new name: phpBB Academy at StarTrekGuide.
The site is now dedicated to not only supporting MOD Authors, but also working with new programmers to be able to
create MODs for phpBB3 and teaching phpBB2 experienced MOD Authors how to adapt to the new phpBB3 method of programming.

Now, STG has become one of the biggest, and ofcourse best, international unofficial phpBB communities, with over 13,300 members,
31 team members and more then 100,000(!) posts. We offer support on phpBB to anyone who needs it.
Our members and visitors are general audience, and we maintain that image by applying our rules softly.
Please read them carefully when searching and posting around the forums.

The Board
Our board contains a great amount of forums, where you can ask anything, from HTML, CSS and PHP, to AJAX,
phpBB3 functions and ACP settings. Though, because of this great amount of forums, we will explain in a few
words what the forums, and everything else, is all about.
  • the Modifications Database
    • The Modifications database contains all modifications that are released by our users, inside
the phpBB3 Olympus MODs / Add-ons Database forums. It shows all first posts, and contains a link to the original.
  • the Chat
    • The AJAX Chat is a modification created by Francis Lewis, aka Handyman. It is installed on our board, and provides
a place for simple and fast communication, though we would rather not see support related questions in there.
  • Newsletters
    • STG emails anyone who is registered at our boards (and has allowed us to email) a newsletter, which
contains the latest information about phpBB, STG and other interesting issues. There is no specific time set when these newsletters arrive.
  • the Board Rules
    • In order to keep the forums running well and to prevent problems, please follow our rules for the forums here. If you have any questions or problems, please contact one of the STG Staff Members. Our goal at STG is to keep a fun, clean, family-friendly environment,
these rules help ensure that people of all ages and backgrounds will enjoy this board.
  • Donation
    • Your donations ensure that we can pay our hosting bills and are able to keep this site online for the benefit of our users.
When you support STG with a minimum donation, you will automatically be added to a Supporters group and will receive all current and future benefits. Ensure you are logged in when you donate to receive this benefit.
If you are able donate more than the minimum, it will keep us motivated to produce "Rewards" for our Supporters, and helps STG that much more. All our staff members are working around the board in their spare time, and on free base.
  • the Blog
    • All registered members can start their own personal blog, which also provides RSS feed, which you can add to
other sites. The user blog mod is powered by EXreaction.

Where to post what?

We see that some people are having problems in the way of where to post what?
Though all forums have clear descriptions, it might still give some problems.
First of all try to read all forum rules, stated above every forum.

I will explain the ones where most trouble is noticed.
I'll start with the forum: STG Support (Since I think everybody knows where the introduction forum is for ;) )

  • STG Support
The STG Support is mainly a forum for the STG website issues. When you are experiencing problems with THIS website
(http://www.startrekguide.com / http://www.phpbbacademy.com). Questions of this kind can be posted inside that forum.

Now the most common thing users have problems with, is that they also post support questions related to their website in this forum.
This is not the purpose of this forum. As the forum rules say: Post site related support issues or questions about phpBB Academy at Star Trek Guide, tools or STG services. Post site feedback here as well. So other questions, related to your own website, or other websites, need to be asked in either the phpBB3 support forum, or the coding assistance forum. Also as the forum rules say: Programming and general coding support or assistance should be requested in the Coding Assistance forums.

  • Olympus Discussion
The Olympus Discussion forums is for discussion of phpBB only. This CAN include questions, for example: What is phpBB's future plan?
But questions on how phpBB3 works, is coded, or what to do with you website are not allowed inhere. It is for discussing the latest development
on phpBB3/2. Or old stuff you wish to get some more information on.

  • phpBB3 Support
This forum is for phpBB3 support only, you are not allowed to start a discussion here, or request a certain modification.
As a general rule, Support for a Specific MOD should be requested in the specific MOD topic, as it would alert the MOD Author of the support request.
Please specify if you have any MODs installed on your board when asking for support.
Mainly for generic usability of phpBB3, no coding related questions (simple ones allowed)
Discussion based topics (phpBB3) go into the Olympus Discussion forums, Daily Discussion goes into the Ten Forward Lounge.
Assistance on your non-phpbb3 website are not allowed here, neither are they in any other forum.
Does your coding problem apply phpBB3, then the phpBB3 Coding Assistance forum needs a visit.

  • phpBB3 Coding Assistance
The coding assistance forum is much alike the phpBB3 Support forum. The only difference is coding and usability.
This forum is for coding questions only. Problems with generic usability of phpBB3 go into the phpBB3 support forum.
