Thankyou phpBB Weekly!

Postby Wedgy » 08 Jan 2010, 05:25

I've been listening to phpBB Weekly for just over a year now ... and I am embarrassed it has taken me so long to write this post.

I started my own forum back in October 2008 with nothing more than some outdated HTML knowledge. Through more luck than judgement, I managed to install phpBB and a couple of Mods. At the time, I was in trouble if anything went wrong with the forums - my knowledge was limited.

I seriously credit the phpBB Weekly podcast with giving me the information I needed, pointers to other resources and most importantly the CONFIDENCE to experiment and grow my knowledge of PHP.

Today, my forum continues to grow from strength to strength. With the release of v3.0.6 I totally rebuilt the forums with ease (correcting all the novice mistakes I made a year ago).

I would like to that both Douglas and David for all the help and knowledge you have imparted ... to this day the phpBB Weekly podcast provides a great service to me - keeping me up to date with the phpBB world when life dictates that I have little time to browse phpbb.com.
Just finished listening to #134 - loved the return of the 'promoting your forum' topic :)

Greetings from South West England UK.
Wedgy (Matt).

Wow, that's great to hear! That's kind of how i got into working with phpBB--I started out by trying to get a forum together (and had kind of a rocky time doing it), but then started tinkering with the code a little bit, then a little bit more, and within a year I became a MOD author, and a MOD Team member a few months later.
Actually, stories kind of like that are just about how most of us got into working with phpBB. ;)

But it's great to get this kind of feedback from listeners because it really gives us a great ego boost. We do the show because it's our way of giving back to the phpBB community in the hope that we can help other members of the community stay knowledgeable and informed, so getting to hear that we're actually fulfilling that goal makes us that much more energized to keep going. So thanks so much for your comments and for sticking with our show! :D

And with that, I've got a flight to catch... see ya!

*puff* *puff* *puff* woohoo!! *BANG* Ouch! I hit my head on the top of the door frame!

Seriously though, this is great feedback, this is the reason why we do the podcast every week, thank you for the wonderful encouragement, Wedgy! :good:
Watch out! I might do a code wheelie!

/me just got a terrible mental image of Jean-Luc Picard's head popping off, not a great mental image to have in the middle of feeling delirious from a combination of sleep deprivation and cross-country traveling
