Joomla and phpbb3 talking through Jfusion.org!

Postby eclipsenow » 30 Dec 2008, 16:47

Hi all,
Love the show, especially the stuff you've been covering about integrating phpbb3 into Joomla wraps for visual and userbase integrity. That's great, because people rarely want "just" a forum or "just" a website, they want it all, wrapped in cellophane with a chocolate on top! (That's the Y-Gen thing hey? Ooops, just started a flame war! :P )

Anyway, in my quest to get phpbb3 and Joomla "talking to each other" I used http://jfusion.org/
Just interviewing the authors of JFusion would be awesome!

But then I had an online contact recommend a different "flavour" of phpbb3 called Extreme Fully Modded.
http://www.fullymoddedphpbb.com/index.p ... 6f97ba3b0f

If you guys got chatting with the authors of fullymodded and ran a show on that, and how, if at all it helps jfusion run a Joomla integration, that would also be awesome. It was only because of your show in the middle of this year (2008) that I became aware that there even were phpbb3 "bridges" with Joomla. You recommended Rockbridge, but after googling around it seems the Joomla community all think Jfusion is the hottest new thang under the sun.

Cheers, and thanks for the great show.

JFusion, eh? Will have to ask David about that.

I think the reason we've talked about RokBridge so much is because it's produced by a subset of the Joomla! devs (as far as I know) and is the main reason why the hooks/plugins systems were added to the phpBB3 core in late 2007.

If the interview happens, I'd be happy to promote it on the JFusion website and JFusion Newsletter!

Hi,

I am the founder and lead developer of JFusion and I would love to join the show to talk about how easily phpBB3 integrates with Joomla. JFusion provides a visual full integration between Joomla/phpBB3, usersync, automatic management of block/activation status between softwares, activity module, avatar displayed in the Joomla login module, user conflict management for people who want to bridge two exisiting softwares, integrate multiple phpBB3 boards into Joomla, single package installs, installation wizard and single click upgrades (just to name a few features). It is a revolutionary free GPL product that can integrate many different softwares into Joomla.

We have a large development team with 12 different developers contributing over the last year and going towards a stable version very fast with 60.000+ downloads of jfusion.

In your latest podcast you mentioned how long it would take to write a new bridge and the answer was that it would take a long time, as it can be very complicated. However with JFusion we have a plugin system where you can easily write your own JFusion plugin simply by writing a couple of SQL statements. The JFusion framework will then do the rest and give you all the features mentioned above after adding some very simple code in your new JFusion plugin. You can write a fully functional bridge in a couple of hours with JFusion. It is really a revolutionary product, even though I am slightly biased.

In addition we are testing out a search plugin that adds a phpBB3 search function to joomla and a discussion bot that links Joomla articles with phpbb3 topics (and creates them automatically for new Joomla articles). There are a lot of exciting things going at the moment that the phpBB3 community would be interested in.

Thanks, Marius

Hi there,

phpBB Weekly would be happy to schedule an interview with some of the JFusion development team. Please be patient as we determine a date which would be best suitable for our audience. We will then contact the appropriate parties for arrangements.

Thanks!! :hello:
