Presidential Acts

Postby Hank the Cowdog » 08 Nov 2008, 14:35

I said in the Presidential Debate that my vice president would be Barack O'Bertie. However, I asked him and he said he couldn't because he was forced to endorse Lyndon Bertie Johnson. So now I'm going with Senator LBJ's vice presidential choice. Yes, that's right; Seven of Nine is the new Vice President of Bertie Mons!

I have taken it upon myself to promote Highway of Life to Chief of Staff. That means that, on certain occasions, he will assume the role of President.

National Holidays:

July 20 -- Londonvasion Day -- Celebrating the first ever phpBB Conference.
November 8 -- Albertie Einstein Day -- Celebrating the inaguration of the first President of Bertie Mons.
December 13 -- phpBB3 Gold Day -- Celebrating the release of Olympus.
December 14 -- Bertie Day -- Celebrating the availability of the 3.0 proSilver Bertie.
December 25 -- Christmas -- Celebrating the birth of Jesus.

If you can think of any other holidays, or if one of the dates listed above is incorrect, please let me know! :)

That's odd, I thought that Bertie Mons was a secular nation...

The last clause of Article VI of the U.S. Constitution would like to disagree with you, as well as the first clause of the First Amendment.

Article VI wrote:All Debts contracted and Engagements entered into, before the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation.

This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.

First Amendment wrote:Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Regardless, the point is both nations consider Christmas a Holiday. So this discussion is a bit pointless.
The Founding Fathers (who were mostly Christian) established a Government free from Religion. Meaning they neither influenced any Religion, nor were influenced by any Religion. However, many Christian holidays are celebrated as national holidays, as do many countries around the world. Nationally recognised holidays include: Christmas, St. Patrick?s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Valentine?s Day.
Watch out! I might do a code wheelie!

Actually, most of the Founding Fathers were either not so big about religion (like, they said they were Christian, but didn't really do anything about it), or atheist. Either way, I think it is silly that Christmas is a national holiday. It's ridiculous. I mean, why should Christianity have superiority in this matter over other religions?

I've always felt that Christmas was more about Jesus and I have never thought it was all about Christianity.

It's always been about celebrating Jesus's birthday and it was all about St. Nicholas giving out presents to everyone, to me.

I hope everyone around the world has a joyous Christmas holiday, if and when ever you may or may not celebrate it! :)

It really shouldn't. But people took a vote and there's what we have. The unique thing about a democracy, as indirect as ours is, isn't that it's fair. Because it's not. But that it gives you an ever-progressive chance toward something like it.

So the majority of us this winter will say Merry Christmas, and the rest Happy Holidays; depending on if you're either more considerate of plurality or working in retail. But it's generally not even a problem, though, unless you get caught in one of the cracks. >.>

But, in true fashion, we have holidays for just about everything. Some even on the federal level that don't quite make sense.

This whole thing has been off-topic, but since we've gone this far, I'd like to note something of interest. :good:

Black History Month: This is your best example of a bad holiday-designation on behalf of the government. - It goes off into other discussions, but in both practical and conceptual terms, it was a mistake. And as far as I'm concerned, every month is black history month.

*Double-posts like an evil mad-man.*

I propose that we enact Santy Day in memorial to all the phpBB boards lost to SQL injection; otherwise known as "Update your Board" day.
