It's popular because it isn't hard to pick up and play.

Yeah, I've found no Facebook game entertaining enough to hold my attention for more than 2 minutes.

Why not turn it around? First decide: How you want to do work, What you want to be able to do etc.. And then decide what kind of genre it is. Aren't you limiting yourself when deciding the genre first?
