Internet is down at the moment and I'm stuck using my not so 3G... the speeds are ridiculous and the data allowance is small.

Should be back by Wednesday... Tuesday at the earliest.

That is really slow.
As for the ping, I tried it again this morning and same result, so I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean.

Tasmania (the island at the bottom of Australia) will be receiving FTTH first, and apparently the speeds will be as fast as 100Mb/s, which is pretty good. I just can't wait 'til it comes up to where I am.

It's great that AU are doing this... Is it being funded or carried out by the Government?

Here there are no plans for FTTH only FTTC for the normal phone network... I'm on cable so it's already fiber to the cabinet... the last 100meters or so is over Coaxial. at the moment supporting up to 50Mb but they are trialling 200Mb speeds in some areas.

It's all funded (or carried out, I'm still trying to figure it out) by the government, "because we're so behind other countries". ;)

Here in Sweden you can get fiber in all major cities, but I live in the woods :) and it would cost too much to get here, so I content myself ADSL 24/8 (what I get is about 18/6)....

Well it's great the govt are doing that there onehundredandtwo... I wish the UK's govt would see sense... yes we may get FTTC but the last leg will be copper... that will be funded by a 50p/month tax on all phone lines.

tested again today, getting nearly 20Mb... we're being compensated for 4 months :)
