Maybe I am misinterpreting the instructions. After I extracted the folders...I renamed the main folder to portal and copied the folder to my phpbb3 folder. Should I have taken all the files inside the portal folder and copied them to the prospective folders inside the phpbb3 folder?

Yes. You don't need to rename any folders.

Ah, so the common.php file it is looking for is actually the common.php from phpbb3

Could I put a permanent left (or right) sidebar in all pages of my forum (or at least, index, viewforum and viewtopic) with this portal?

I only need a sidebar showing the last active topics from specific forums and some other simple blocks (banners, for example).

the file sgpb1 that I downloaded yesterday is missing the info for adding 'picture/thumbs' folders to

I got an error before those two folders were added. After I added those it works great

Outstanding instructions I love it! I absolutely love it! I do, however, think that I'm missing something. I figured out that I can see my portal if I go to mysite.com/portal.php but how do I operate it? Where do I name things and edit things? I can't find it in the administration panel for the board, does it have it's own?

Did you make all the edits to the templates and php files as described in the stargate portal install folder and if you did, did you clear your Cache?

I edited the admin files, the template files, etc.. All of the files that the .txt file said to edit and then went into the admin cp and cleared the cache on prosilver and (have my portal turned off in the config.php so that it doesn't effect the board) it looks like this

if have to turn the portal on in the config.php file if it is off all portal function are turned off as well
