[DEV] STG - Bug / Feature Tracker

Postby Highway of Life » 03 Jan 2007, 22:31

Hey Guys, I've started development on this Module for Star Trek Guide.
So I'm taking feature requests, all you MOD authors, this is your chance to chime in and get want you want for the MOD Database and feature / bug tracking system. Smile
Here is what I have so far.
Please keep in mind that these features will only be implemented over time and releases, so the first version will NOT contain ALL of these features.

If you would like to assist in development of this Module for StarTrekGuide, or would like to assist in the testing or planning, please post in this topic, or PM me.
Thanks!!

How are you doing the permissions exactly?

I think you should have it so that the mod owner decides who had admin/mod powers and have a mini admin/mod CP for them(specific to that mod only). Grin

I don't think it would be too hard to do something like that. Smile

Let me see if I can give some permission details.
  • Permissions will follow the normal Forum / User Permission system.
  • MOD Authors have ability to Edit reports made for their MODs
  • MOD Authors can NOT edit reports made for other MODs unless they are on the MOD Author alternate List.
  • The Tracker will have it's own set of Moderators, same as forum Moderators
  • Users will be able to edit their own reports/replies within x- seconds
I have not thought it over extensively yet, but that's what I have so far...

Bug status list, and Feature status list added.

Ex, they can control who can do what with the Alternate Author List.
If you are the main MOD Author, you can manage that list, and anyone on that list can manage that MOD for which they are a part of.
Does this answer you question, or are you looking for something with more flexibility and control? please elaborate if so.

Something like the permissions page that normal admins have. Except the owners of the mods have that page where they can set specific permissions for specific users. Smile

You could be looking at a list of possibly hundreds of MOD Authors... and what permissions would a person need over a Bug/Feature Tracker?? -- change status, assign ability, edit ability, that's pretty much it... if you are on the "list" then you can do this anyways, so there's no reason (in my mind) that you would need a whole control panel to manage permissions for users.
For one, we don't want a WHOLE bunch of people being able to Moderate the Tracker... that's why it's limited to if you created it, you can Moderate it, but that's about as far as the permissions should go. (unless you convince me otherwise)

BTW, added the MOD submission Queue... which a set of "Reviewers" will be able to manage approve/disapprove and change status of new MOD submissions.

Highway of Life,

I have with the outmost of interest read this topic, and also the old, now locked topic.

I totally agree with you and Handyman about it's quite annoying with the missing preview feature while posting a starting post in a new report on .com, and I see that there will dealt with that in this STG project.

Personally, I have the same perception as you of what's needed for a bug tracker - a bug tracker is for precise, clear objective reports, mostly stated in a neutral way, based on the principle, that what the reporter wrote, he just wrote, so most editing features should be avoided, in a well chosen appropriate balance, so that operating the tracker does not get annyoing. That also based on purpose of the bug tracker beeing material and precise dokumentation for bug report handling over time.

Jesus, I really need this MOD/add on for Olympus in the future for my language package work for user feed back - language package maintaining is a never ending story. Normally I do not get involved so specificly in MODs testing etc, because I do not have the time for it, but you can count me in on this one for future reference as a active tester.

I will really Duel Aikido Club while testing it.

Your overall "agenda" for the final MOD looks really well thought out to me. I really have no specific constructive comments or suggestions on it so far after reading it several times.

- Jesus, I almost can't wait Yahoo
