No, but you will have to add a template to this mobile style for the portal.

Is that how a portal works? Each style has to have a template added for the main page?
How ever you make the portal work for a normal style.... same with this mobile style.

Oh, I can do that, that's cake :)

Can someone show me how as I am having a problem using a Portal....

I got it to work but now whenever I try to login now I get the following error:

General Error
template->_tpl_load_file(): File ./styles/STG-Mobile/template//portal/portal_body.html does not exist or is empty

I'm using Board3.de portal and my page is: http://www.lucianriders.com/forum
I don't want a portal page for the mobile users if that is of any help.

Thanks for any help with this!

That is the template I was thinking went in the style's template directory when you run a portal.
You must have a portal_body.html file in your subsilver2 template directory that you could copy to your mobile style.
Try that.

That would get it to work. But that template would have to be rebuilt to lay correctly on your small mobile device.
This style was not built for a portal and I'm sure each portal would have to be customized to fit it's functions....
but it can certainly be done.

Work that up and see what you come up with. Send us some screen shots.

The mobile style also uses a simple header.
You would have to use an IF statement somewhere in your portal index for that.... or some edit, somewhere.
Someone with the knowledge of portals would have to help me out here, I've never ran a portal for phpBB3.
but I bet we could figure it out for you.

Handyman told me that anything is possible.

Well I'm kind of stumped but in a good way.
I uploaded the sessions.php file again, deleted apple from the device list as I was uncertain if it was causing a problem with my iMac and now it seems to be working perfectly without doing anything about the portal... It works just like it should and confirmed with a gen 1 and gen 2 iphone, two different blackberry's and a psp. These show the mobile version and both my pc and mac show the regular style!

This is awesome!!

I'm experiencing a bit of strange behavior on the "Show Active Topics" page which I wonder is a coding error or if this is how its meant to display.
This is how it shows on both my PC and on my iPhone:
Image

My Blackberry Flip does not display the wide topic icon boxes any wider than the icons themselves so for this application its fine. Is there any way to make the Subject box variable in width rather than the topic icon box?
It would look considerably better (on the iPhone) if it could display that way instead.

Otherwise this is an exceptional bit of work and I certainly appreciate the effort that has gone into this.

Yes, that is a template which has not been rewritten yet. This style is in development.... and I'm slacking as usual.
If you check around in a few other pages, you will find some other areas that need work like that one.

I'll make some time when I can next week and rewrite that page. And while I'm working on this page....
Are there any other pages you go to that are way out of whack you want done?

Update coming soon to a server near you!

goboss wrote:Wow! thanks for a great mod! I have had to do a little special extra modding to get my site to do the right thing as it is using a portal, which got in the way. So, as a result.... I welcome anyone who would like to test my site to see how it shows up on any and all phones to please try it.... http://www.grabberranger.com I use an ipod touch, so iphone will be the same. I have it set to detect the iphone as mobile, just for now. Thank you in advance for anyone who is willing to check this for me...

If this works for any or all of the phones that test, then I will be posting the code snippets for use in this project. Some of which I borrowed.

Which portal did you use and what did you have to do to get around it?

This site might have the answer or at least make the changes simpler if you can figure out what Goboss has done on his site... check it out: http://www.grabberranger.com/search.php?st=7&sk=t&sd=d&sr=topics&search_id=active_topics&style=3

@ cyrus - try adding 'SonyEricsson' to your array list to handle both types of your W810i and K810i
or try adding just 'Sony' or 'Ericsson' and if that fails add 'W810i' and 'K810i' for just those 2 phones.
Let me know if adding 'SonyEricsson' works and I'll add it here on our site.
Adding 'Sony' should cover all Sony mobile browser but make sure it doesn't pick up any desktop browsers.

No Lucian, that page showing on that grabberranger site is all wrong. That is a subsilver2 template.
Go into one of your forums and look at how the topics listed are showing.
That is how the active topics page should look. No topic images and everything placed in one cell.

Look at the difference in a subsilver2 style template and a mobile style template:

Look at your Search page with your mobile.
Then use the codes in this stg_mobile search_body.html for your template.
Save and Refresh Templates on your mobile style and then look at the difference on your mobile.
All these Search templates need to be rewritten for the mobile style. I'll get those for you later.

Hi Sniper,

I tried your code changes for search_results.html and its a good start but there is a coding error as the first topic subject ends up in the location bar just above the topics and consequently all of the author, responder info ends up in the wrong subject this being the one directly below. You can see in the attached picture.

So when you click on the first subject it ends up linking to what should be above it and the same is true for all of the others below it.

I'm not sure that the one column layout is a good idea, to me it would be better to have at least two with the subject and author in one and the rest in another.

I appreciate the work you have put in and will be looking out for further changes....
