There is a bug in php where say if I make 20 posts then define a signature and post more, the first 20 posts will not show my signature. Only 21+ will.

Because of that I always make a signature before I post, that way I can change it later and not have to worry about this. (Even if it's just a simple sig that says "Insert sig later"

When I try to create one here it says I am not authorized to define one. Who is authorized to define one? Do you have to have so many posts?

I tried looking for announcements on this, but found none...

Due to the trouble StarTrekGuide is having with spammers and spambots, new users are placed in the "Newly Registered Users" group until they reach a certain number of posts.

Newly Registered Users are restricted in certain areas, such as signatures, to prevent spamming.

Once you reach the required post-count (5 posts, I think), then you can set a signature. :)

It's the newly registered users feature that is in place, as this board runs phpBB 3.0.6

IIRC, it's 5 posts until you are given full auths, as well.

Edit: Curse you hank, beat me to it

Okay thanks, and I think this makes 5.

It's not that much a pain to have to do it for only 5 posts. Except this one is locked and I can't :(

I wonder if instead users can define a signature, but it won't show up until you get 5 posts?

That way it's still convenient that users can enter their sig and bypass the bug or if they have time before the get 5 posts, but spammers can't spam...

I doubt that StarTrekGuide would implement that feature unless it came with a future version of phpBB, since there's really no need for it.

By the way, you're going to have to change your current signature. Drawing attention to your support request topic in any way (except for Bumping) causes clutter and is considered spamming. This includes linking to your support request topic in your signature and asking for support in the chatbox.
