I have spent a LOT of time integrating TinyMCE (WYSIWYG editor) into PHPBB 3.08. A lot of that time was used in fully supporting admin written BBCodes and admin selected smilies.

I seriously think that releasing an "official" PHPBB with TinyMCE integrated into it would go a LONG way towards increasing it's usage and popularity.

I mean, really... which looks better?

Geez... I had to use BBCodes. Ugh.

And, as far as security is concerned, TinyMCE only allows HTML elements that are specified in the configuration. So, the worries that some hacker will inject Javascript or PHP or some other nasty code are for naught. Besides, all of the fanatical security built into PHPBB itself is still there.

Honestly, I see no reason why PHPBB cannot and should not be updated to WYSIWYG...

From a usability standpoint, I've always hated WYSIWIG. It usually tries to be more intelligent than the user and fails at doing so.
That being said however, I am a programmer, and am used to editing output with a keyboard a lot; I know the shortcuts, and I copy/paste quite a bit -- in all honesty it is easier and faster for someone like me to just use plain bbcode.

I know exactly what you mean. Like Microsoft Word... it has a million features and most people don't use more than about 10 of them.

With that in mind, I tried to make the editor setup as simple and clean as possible without too many useless bells and whistles.

I would like it if you would check out the board and the editor and give me your opinion on it's layout, usability, performance, etc...

You can access it from the little globe icon in my profile box here, or just click HERE

Thanks!

1. Quick edit is implemented in the software already....

2. You can decorate your profile, if that is allowed

3. you can put prefixes and suffixes around the group/usernames --> make Banned users have a strikethrough

But vB isn't free...so I don't like it much :/

All of that stuff is easy to do with PHPBB......

As a beginner I prefer using VB. I think it is a good stepping stone for me to progress further. Everything seems quite easy so far.
