Very Nice Highway of Life. I tested it out on my development forum and it works perfectly fine. I like it. 10/10 :good: :good:

Doesn't work for me. Even if I delete common.css nothing happens :shock:

Any hints?

This is a great how to for a simple version of prosilver se. Thanks!

One question: I end up with a thin border all the way around the forum, just before the grey background color begins, and that thin border is black on the left and top and a light blue color at the right and bottom. What controls those two colors? I'd like those to be the same all the way around. I am guessing it has something to do with this change in common.css:

Code: Select all
#wrap {
   min-width: 650px;
   margin:10px auto;
   padding:6px;
   text-align:left;
   width:910px;
   background-color:#FFF;
   border: 4px inset #000566;
}

[edit: a little experimentation shows that "border: 4px inset #000566;" creates a thin border (4px with color 000566) but only on the left and top...why does that border only show up on the left and the top? What would I do to create a 4px inset for the right and bottom sides as well?]

Ok, I just figured out that inset be definition means only the left and top border (duh!). Sorry for the stupid question.

But I have a follow up question: why do you use inset rather than solid in the instructions in this topic? (Solid means border all around.)

Hmmm, after following this terrific How-To, I see that the more smilies page has no background color and the user list you get to when you click "find user" from a new pm is centered rather than left justified and has no background color.

After investigating, I decided that the change the How-to tells you to make to #wrap to add a background color and "text-align: left" should also be made to #simple-wrap. So I tried the following but it didn't work:

Code: Select all
OPEN
styles/prosilver/theme/common.css

FIND
#simple-wrap {
   padding: 6px 10px;
}

REPLACE WITH
#simple-wrap {
   padding: 6px 10px;
   text-align: left;
   background-color: #FFF;
}

That didn't work but I'm not sure why. As a kludge, I did the following which does work fine:

Code: Select all
OPEN
styles/prosilver/templates/simple_header.html

FIND
<div id="simple-wrap">

REPLACE WITH
<div id="simple-wrap" style="text-align: left; background-color: #FFF;">

That's fine for my purposes, but I'm really curious about why changing common.css didn't work. Any hints? (And yes, I did refresh template and theme about a hundred times :grin:)

Maybe there is another .css file that loads after the common.css which is over-riding those variables.
You could look for another #simple-wrap class that needs editing.

Good idea. But I just searched for #simple-wrap and besides common.css it comes up only in the following files:
phpBB3\docs\hook_system.html(122): #simple-wrap {
phpBB3\docs\stylesheet.css(114): #simple-wrap {

I don't think those ever get called in a regular board, do they?

I don't know about those being pulled. If that hook mod is installed, maybe they are.
You could always try to change those and see what happens.
And of course, take out the style="text-align: left; background-color: #FFF;" from the <div id="simple-wrap"> line.
Test it and see if that will make the difference.
