It pulls the version out of the database... sounds like the database was already updated. Which is good...

You need to upload the gold version (keep your current /images, /files, /store folders and config.php)... run the database_update.php just to make sure everything is good... then you may need to run the clear.php file when you get all the files updated... outlined here (fixes the logging into the ACP issue) http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 922#script

Hey my dear experts!

Thanks much for the info. I successfully uploaded the RC4! I wish I could have kept the "upgraded" version of the dbase already. However, there seems to be too many hidden Mickeys.

I will do the upgrade step by step from here. Although for others that may be daring enuf to do what i've done, feel free to do so.

I will now experiment on the RC4-5-7-Gold, just to see if I get less bugs.

But yes, the dbase upgrade can be run from RC4 to Gold immediately, if you could deal with the debugging. Either way, it still entails some work.

More details to follow... Its been 20hours straight for me already. Hehe... Just love it.

Things, I've noticed:
- Cancel button in the posts are no longer available (you need to press back in order to cancel a post) or is this a mod that i should install to get this back
- Smilies are not showing (majority)
- The overall header and footer files keep losing the mods I've made to them. I reloaded the old ones again. I hope they don't refresh again after a few runs.

Oh well... That's it for me for today.

I did all upgrades gradually, RC4-5-6-7-Gold. Then I encountered the ACP authentication problem.
- I resulted to checking the posts you quoted earlier. Thank you for that. But all 3 solutions didn't help (clear.php, changing the 2 paragraphs in the login html file, and the /form replacements)

Having done all that, and rechecking everything around 4x, I still cant get in ACP.

I hope someone has another solution. It seems that it is the templates that are the problem. I will try to upload a prosilver template from RC5 as my last resort for the day.

Looks like I've reached a dead end already.

I've deleted the existing prosilver folder and replaced it with a clean RC5 prosilver template - still the same error with ACP.
I've done the same and replaced the old folder with a folder from the Gold package - still the same error with ACP.



What have I missed?

Ok Guys! I've made it happen!

I just had to make a decision on what was more important: my re-modifying the forum or the functionality of the forum.

Of course its the second, keeping my members in mind.

Here is a summary of what I did:
- I upgraded from RC4 to 5 to 6 to 7 to Gold. All the patches you need are available here - http://sourceforge.net/project/download ... p&73715768

(sticking to the upgraded version)
- This would of course give you much bugs to deal with, such as being unable to login in ACP or being unable to post properly. You could try solving the bugs via these links in summary:
a. HTML editing - http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 6&t=584896
b. Making sure your login template is up to par & clearing your cache - http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 922#script
c. Making sure your Include files are debugged - http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 6&t=584898

(or you could do what I did to get rid of these bugs)

- Once I had the dbase slowly, but surely, updated to Gold, erased everything in the FORUM folder and re-uploaded a vanilla install of the Gold series!
- Copied back my config.php file, erased the install folder
- There you go!!!
*It really is not an absolutely good idea to keep modding a non-final version. So you may want to wait a while for the final release. Fresh uploading the forum keeps things under tight security that it would work.
- Reuploaded the images and avatars as needed.
- Remodded my header and footer manually. (copying your old header and footer might cause bugs due to the HTML code discrepancies)
- I will just need to remap the smilies as not all of them are showing from here. Please see this link to get the smilies.

Just an inquiry left unanswered is how come I still don't have the "cancel" button available when I make posts, despite the vanilla install. Is this because it is a mod?

I should have told you that mods need to be added to the templates again after upgrading if you were not doing the automatic upgrading. (automatic upgrading helps to "merge" changes on templates and will let you make the choice if it cannot).

Unsure what you mean about the cancel button. Is this on prosilver? It should be there. Maybe a image of what you are talking about.

On a side note, I am glad you got updated. I upgraded as the releases came out so I didn't have near as much problem... you might consider upgrading with the releases going forward

I, just like any other phpBB diehard, should come by to check for releases every two weeks. I was guilty of letting this go for a while.

Regarding the "Cancel" button, it is the button available beside the "Preview -> Submit -> Save -> Cancel" buttons when one needs to post a topic.

I do not have the Cancel button beside the Save. I only have the first three. Am I just lacking an image to show it?

If you are using a proSilver based style, you will NOT see one... if you are using a subSilver2 based style, you will see one... strange, I know, but that is how it is setup right now. I think I read something where it was determined to be unnecessary a while back.
