Feature Requests for the STG MOD Development Manager

Postby Handyman » 26 Apr 2008, 10:59

As mentioned on phpBBWeekly, we would like to hear your thoughts and features you would like to see in the MOD Development Manager here.
We are currently in version 0.2.0-Dev, and we are by no means feature frozen.
We have a lot of features in the roadmap (not currently public) that we will be adding down the road? but don't let that stop you from requesting features :)
Please contact me if you have any news to submit to SCOFF News.

  • Having it work.
  • Have a field for the MOD's topic on phpBB.com?
  • Having a field for (if applicable) compliance to XHTML, HTML 4, CSS standards.
  • Special install instructions field?
  • The OOPS section, where bugfixes between versions can be added, appearing as normal text and CODE bbcode tag areas.

Can't think of any more.

I hope that posting in a sticky isn't considered bumping (even if it's two years later :P), but here I go:

  • Option to sort the MODs directory by the update date, not just the submission date
  • FAQ Manager has numerous grammatical / spelling errors.
    • On creating a new question, "Select wether you want to create a new question or category from the drop down list " - the 'wether' should be 'whether'
    • On creating a new category, "You can create a detailed description for the catergory here. BBcode, links, and smilies are allowd." - catergory, allowd are misspelled.
    • After editing a question, "Faq question and answer sucessfully edited" - Faq should be capitalized, sucessfully -> successfully
    • After creating a question, "New question and answer sucessfully created" - sucessfully -> successfully
  • In FAQ manager, it'd be nicer to have the answer field as a TEXT column in MySQL, because the current char limit (presumably 255) is extremely low for some of my questions.
  • Keep up-to-date with latest phpBB version for the Tested On field (latest version currently listed is phpBB 3.0.6, should be 3.0.7-PL1)
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest MODX XSD. Listed version is I think either 1.2.1 or 1.2.3, but the latest release is 1.2.5.
  • Be able to upload a MODX file for import, and/or support more SVN repositories (such as Google Code)
MODsGoalMod 2.1.0 (update - Alerts!)User Topic Ban 1.0.0B2
  • Advanced Thread Management (dev) • AutoMod-U (dev) • MOD Queue
Note: if a MOD has no associated link, you can find information about it in my MOD queue.

Yeah, it would be nice to be able to show our MODs are compatible with the latest stable releases.

Just to be clear: Yes, part of STG's mod team is working hard on a big project, some others are working on another part that includes whizby and the new website. Of course, the new versions have to be added to the current mod manager but please, bare with us, we just can't do everything at once and yes, we are people too, people with familys, jobs etc. so we do have (some sort of) normal social life outside STG/PHPBB....

Well, that is not for me to decide. Joining the (development) team is invitation only from the team leader (mike) and if he thinks we need help he will invite anyone he thinks is suitable for the job. Anyway, thanks for the understanding..... ;)

Thanks for the feature requests Dennis!
As Frans mentioned, we're working on creating a lot more than just an upgrade to the current system we have right now, so hang with us while we finish it up.
We'll be asking for more suggestions and input as we move along in development - probably after the first release, which should be a lot more stable with more features than our Current MOD Manager.

@Jason,

thanks very much for the offer!
We very much appreciate everybody that would like to help in any way and we will need help in the near future (all dependant on when we get the first version of the new MOD Manager out), so stay tuned :)

We will be posting an announcement topic looking for feedback, first from our supporters, and next from the community, on not only the MOD Manager (which will be renamed), but also on features that people would want in such a product. And yes, that can happen after the first release, but I won’t say when it will happen. Only that we are working very hard on about three major projects related to StarTrekGuide. :)
Watch out! I might do a code wheelie!
