Yeah, give it a shot... do NOT do it on your live board first...
you MUST test it on a localhost.

If you run into any problems, just post details in this topic, and we'll be able to help you through them. Smile

Well, I will give it a look over when I use this again. Tongue

I am going to upgrade someones forums to phpBB3 Beta 4 for them, so I will see how it goes and you'll find out if I have any problems(he is also running a CH mod board...so it will be interesting to say the least). Grin

I have successfully upgraded 2.0.21 to Beta4 with this script by commenting all $sql_numrows lines in xxxxxx._upgrade.php scripts

however, PM and 4 usernames ( go figure why) are missing.

very good job guys

Check your admin panel.
They are probably on the inactive list.

Also, if you are just looking at their user_id, ID's 3, 4, 5 and 6 are reserved for Yahoo, MSN, Google and... I don't remember the other bot... but they are bots now, so the user that used to be #3 is now #7 and everybody else is moved up 4 ID's as well.

Think did that make any sense?

Yes... everyone is shifted +4 IDs
And anyone inactive is not going to be counted until they activate their accounts.
If you have any inactive accounts you should "Force Re-Activation" or "Remind" so that they can activate their accounts.

The users are just not there. unless there is some reserved special id.

From Beta4 there was 50 (from what I remember) robots registered. I've erased them all to make sure it was the userid creating troubles ( phpbb 2.0.21 ids were 8,25,26,41 )
to avoid any users conversion error. but it didn't work.
any suggestions ?

Thanks a lot for all theses hints

EDIT: the +4 rules got my attention and after looking the users_upgrade.php, I've found
Code: Select all
$user_id = $user_row['user_id'] + '4';
so I imagine if I change it for something like +54 it should work. Gonna give you the feedback

Ah, that is true, since they recently added some 50 extra bots by default to a new install.

You_should_NOT_directly upgrade to Beta 4. You just stumbled upon one of the many landmines you will hit along the way. Wink

Anyways...I am not doing too good over here upgrading this guy's forum to phpBB3. Sad

Our phpBB2 to phpBB3 upgrade script is such a mess. Sad

We had too many people working on it with different designs. Tongue

It should have been more like the Beta to Beta upgrade scripts we did. Tongue

I am hitting every hidden land mine along the way it seems with this one. Sad

And it doesn't help that the SQL dump of the guys phpBB2 forum's database is massive either...it weighs in at 645MB. Swoon

/support this point

but, there was few guys asking if it could work in previous posts so now they know the answer Wink
It also require lots of modifications to the actual script so unless you have a very good knowledge of php and the databases you should not use it and do the correct scripts for phpbb2.0.21 >> beta2 >> beta4

saves a lot of troubles

OMG!
I wish I could help you there...
Actually, you should get Navicat.
Francis and I just purchased a copy, and it has changed our SQL lives... literally.
It's been worth every penny and more.

I think if we did the upgrade script over again, it would be 100x better... knowing what we know now.
