Send an email when MOD is updated

Hello Startrekkers

I think it could be very nice to have the opportunity to get a mail when a specific MOD is updated.

This could be done by creating a new forum where only MOD authors can post.
Just create a topic with the name:
[SUBSCRIBE] + MOD name

Then we, the users, can subscribe to that topic. When MOD is updated, Author can post it and we will get notified.

I think when we do the redesign of the STG MOD Database, we?ll implement that functionality as well, as the STG MOD Database would be for all MODs approved and in Development, and I?m betting users would want to be notified if either one updates.

It could be done by signing up to a specific group. A "Notify on update" group for each MOD.
Don't know how much db space it will need.

I think just a single extra table, not that big of a deal.
I?ve not thought out the implementation much yet, so I have yet to devise a plan.

In the case of phpBB.com, that kind of thing won?t happen, I may be able to get an XML of all MODs in the MOD DB, but we won?t do e-mail notifications there.

For MOD developers using ie. CVS or SVN at http://www.sourforge.net it would be a piece of cake to create such mailingslists for free on a per MOD basis. phpBB Group has a mailinglist for Olympus CVS checkins - it is very handy, when one want to to follow changes in the code closely.
