A section for promoting your forum

Postby Tyler » 15 Mar 2008, 13:49

Hi amigos,

When it comes to phpBB3 Olympus we're all pretty much on the same frequency. We all like it, we love to tinker with it, or we love to run the forum, or we like to do both. Any way most of us here, have our own forum running, and of course you can visit it, just by clicking on the banner in the signature. There are already quite of few amigos who are promoting their forum like that, just look at mine. ;)

But just imagine a section or subforum, where we can promote our own forum properly. We could write a nice introduction, about what it's about, what kind of mods we use, which themes, what our goals are and which people we are trying to reach. And once a promotion is posted, members from here can come and visit the forum, and then reply to the post with suggestions, ideas and comments about that forum. I also welcome constructive criticism from my peers here.

:hello: Tyler.

p.s.
Okay, maybe it's been suggested before, if so then just forget what I'm writing here.

Now the problem with that is probably known.
It is a good idea, people could write informative posts about their forum, how much effort they have put in it, etc. etc..
Now I'm sure there are LOTS of people at STG who like this suggestion, and would write such neat posts, as you ;)
But you will always, and really..always have people who will register, post their link, and be off again.
Or only register to post one post there, and then leave forever..

Secondly we as Moderator would have our hands full on people who just post 1 link, and then finish.

The best, and most fair option is: Using your signature.
Your signature gives the most perfect solution for promoting your website.
By offering support, asking questions and releasing mods/styles you will get more posts,
and therefore get your link in your signature spread around the forum.

I think Tyler was saying that we should have an introduction about phpBB Academy here in a forum.
There could not be a forum here where anyone visiting could post about their site as a promotion.

But if and when we have a "Who we Are" section on this site I would think it would be in our portal.
Maybe not a portal but a main Welcome Page outside of the community directory @ startrekguide.com.

David has mentioned this before, so you never know what may happen there.

I forgot about the spammers :banghead: , yes you are right, such a section could easily become abused.

Can you elaborate that a bit Ed?
I thought he was talking about a forum where we could introduce our site..
I think the Introduction forum, and signatures are the best solution for that.

No Roelof, you see from Tyler's last post that he was talking about a forum where everyone could come in and promote their site.

you could make a forum for it but lock it off to members with a certain post count or some sort of requirement? that way you might even get some more posts and stuff from people :good: just my 2 cents :hello:

I gave it some more thought, and maybe the title promotion section wasn't a good title, perhaps it would be better to call it something like, feedback section. If we leave the "promotion" part out of the concept, then perhaps spammers won't bother to check it out.

In such a feedback section, we could talk about each others forums, do suggestions, give comments, ask questions like; "hey how did you do that?"

Wouldn't that be a general discussion?
