Feedback Requested: phpBB Weekly's Londonvasion Coverage

Postby webmacster87 » 05 Apr 2008, 22:36

For those of you who listened live to phpBB Weekly #057 today (incidentally, although not confirmed, I think that we had a record for live listeners today), you know that we talked in depth about Londonvasion 2008. (For those of you who didn't listen live, the episode will be out within 12 hours, I promise.)

Even though I would like to be there, I will definitely not be able to make it there. However, David is going, and so he's pretty much going to be representing phpBB Weekly at the conference. We're hoping to be able to do some kind of coverage of this event for phpBB Weekly, utilizing David as our primary proxy and me back home as the guy who will be busy editing stuff at getting it published as quickly as possible.

But anyway, we want to put the question to you all in terms of what kind of coverage that you would like phpBB Weekly to (try to) bring you from Londonvasion in July. While we can't guarantee what we will and won't be able to do at Londonvasion, we would definitely like to hear your suggestions and get your feedback. David and I will take your suggestions and discuss what we can feasibly try to accomplish. We hope that the phpBB teams will be able to help us out a bit to be able to have some great coverage both on the podcast and on our blog at phpBBWeekly.net.

I think first and foremost David should try to get on video or mp3 any talks the developers give. I would be immensely interested in anything they have to say. Even if it is not any new news. If theres going to be a keynote. Anything like that.

Hi,

I totally second Matt's considerations. I really can't imagine, that there will not pop up a more specific agenda for the Londonvasion at later moment at http://www.phpbb.com, and that would make the demand for coverage more clear, I think.

To be honest, I was a bit disappointed about the coverage of the phpBB Group-Joomla! Team meeting in London some time ago - actually almost no real structured information was given about what was discussed and decided just after the meeting. We got it in bits and parts afterwards.

I would also like to "see" phpBBWeekly "on the spot" seriously covering the event.

The phpBB-Joomla! meeting was, from what I understand it, a much more informal thing. To be honest, even I didn't hear about it until David mentioned it like a month after the fact. Comparing Londonvasion to that meeting is honestly like comparing apples to peanut butter.

One idea that I had that I wanted to get your opinion on (assuming that this is feasible with the team members at Londonvasion and their schedule, etc.), would be having our episode that weekend be live at Londonvasion. David would have some kind of setup there live with the audience at Londonvasion, and also connected online to the TalkShoe call and to me. The episode would be sometime Sunday morning (for us in the United States, afternoon for the local Londonvasioners).

What would you guys think of that if it was possible?

I think that is a fantastic idea, Douglas.
Some radio stations in Nashville would sometimes host live radio shows at a Sports Bar and Grill, so they had a live audience and would interact with them, it was quite cool.
It would be awesome if we could do something like that with phpBB Weekly.
We could have a couple of phpBB Team Members join us live and have Douglas over the phone, then if we could get a small P.A. Setup, that would really top it all off.
Watch out! I might do a code wheelie!

Well, if you could get all the audio from the local Londonvasion area into your computer and sent over through Skype, then that could be streamed live on TalkShoe, and thus I could be there and we could have the whole TalkShoe audience there, thus making our biggest live phpBB Weekly ever. :yahoo:

It?s a shame it?s not held within driving distance of me, I would bring my own P.A. system, would setup vocal mics (AKG 1000's and Shure SM58's) for each of the participants and a pair of Earthworks TC30 mics on booms for the audience and ambience.
For the audience there, I would setup a pair of my EV Force speakers powered by a Carver Power Amp with a Yamaha O1V mixer for complete control and levels it back into Skype and Garage Band for broadcasting.

OH well... one can dream, right?

What we're currently hoping to do will be as follows: At approximately 3 PM London time (which will be 10:00 AM EDT) on July 20th, at Londonvasion, we're going to do a live special episode of phpBB Weekly from Londonvasion. David will be heading up this episode along with the live audience at Londonvasion, but the live show will also be hooked up over the internet to TalkShoe (and I will be there via TalkShoe as well), so that we can have one great big live show from Londonvasion and from the rest of the internet. This will be a great chance for us to get to hear from a huge portion of the phpBB community, and for those of us who can't get across the English Channel to be at Londonvasion in spirit.

All of this is assuming that David will be able to scrounge up enough technical equipment for us to be able to seamlessly bridge the gap between a major production at Londonvasion with our usual TalkShoe-enabled production that we normally do, however we're hoping to be able to pull this off. Thanks to the support of the phpBB team members, phpBB Weekly will be the primary source of Londonvasion coverage that weekend, and David will be leading the charge. In addition to our live episode, we will be doing a normal episode on Saturday, July 19th (at the usual time), when David will be joining us from London and sharing what is being planned. Plus, he will be recording other content throughout the day at Londonvasion, which we will be compiling and releasing for you all to listen in.

Anyway, while it's still somewhat early on, we have already begun making our plans for phpBB Weekly's exclusive Londonvasion coverage, and we will keep you up-to-date as we finalize more of our plans!
