Yes Frans, STG has such a great potential, we have a great community (continuos growing at a rapid speed), friendly and competent members/staff, very good MOD writers, amazing coders, great stylers, etc. Why not fully use these recourses. I almost would say it would be a shame not to do it ;)

Did I already mention the word fork? :borg:

But of course these kind of decisions have to be made by David and Francis, but as always I know that they make the right decisions for the STG community.

hmmm, fork ????

But hey, why not join up, some sort of collaboration between phpbb and the experts (from stg ;)) where phpbb can use (parttime) resources from stg and vice versa....

I saw LadySaraJane being busy a while back wiht getting ideas for a STG shop. Although lots of people were very enthousiastic i still haven't a mug, mousepad etc.etc. with the STG logo stamped on it...so maybe, if we do our best, we can release the novel before she has realized that the best item to sell on STG is NOT a pink thong but something really useful.... :rotfl:

Actually it was Seven of Nine asking for ideals for the shop. I was just helping to brainstorm them along with having a link to a shop that we could use. http://startrekguide.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=6510

10 pages... still going strong.

I would like to see some more topics opened or at least replies with general feedback on anything related to the MOD Database, the MOD Team, or MOD Validation. :) ... here or on phpBB.com would be fine.
There is a specific reason I?m interested in Feedback -- we?re going to be changing things in the future, so if you want your problem, idea, suggestion, or criticism addressed, implemented, or fixed. The sooner you get your 2¢ in, the better. :)

I think the best thing for the ModDB would be to get rid of the forums for the ModDB. Rebuild the ModDB to have something like a forum (except not shown in the forums, just in the ModDB area) for each mod where mod authors moderate that forum. Otherwise the ModDB is rather useless.

If the forums are not wanting to be scrapped, what is the Mods Db for? Working on the Mods DB browse section then was probably a waste of time.

You?re talking about a lot of extra work there. :this:
To scrap the forums and make the MOD DB handle discussion and support. I can see adding support for a FAQ that would answer all common support questions, but to facilitate discussion and communication between Users and Author, anything short of the functionality of the forum might drive people nuts.

It really isn't that much work...it could easily be done within a week or two if somebody could work on it every day or other day for a few hours.

I am not sure about the performance consequences of this, but what about just building subforums for each mod and hiding them in the normal forums then only showing them in the ModDB. Any idea about how much extra load that would put on the forums?

I can't believe the time it took me to read that topic.. so many points and opinions, by the time you hit the 3rd page, you forgot what you wanted to comment on, then by the 6th page, you forgot everything again..

But I posted what feedback I could from memory, it took me hours to read that.
