Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 Trailer Revealed at SDCC

Looks as if the voyages of the USS Discovery are set to continue in a just-announced second season of Star Trek: Discovery exclusively on CBS All Access. A trailer was revealed for the new season during the Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con yesterday, which you can view below:

Star Trek: Discovery‘s second season will pick up right where the first left off. In Season 1’s finale, the crew of the Discovery came face-to-face with the USS Enterprise captained by none other than the famous James T. Kirk on his five-year mission from Star Trek: The Original Series.

However, because Star Trek: Discovery takes place a decade prior to the events of Star Trek: The Original Series, the USS Enterprise is still under the command of Captain Christopher Pike. Jeffrey Hunter played the original Captain Pike in the series’ first episode “The Cage”. Marvel’s Inhumans star Anson Mount will instead be taking over the role in Star Trek: Discovery.

Pike is not the only notable Star Trek character aboard the USS Enterprise however, as Pike’s science officer, Mr. Spock, is on that ship as well. Spock, who was played memorably by the late Leonard Nimoy, will be recast for this next season as well. Sarek, Spock’s father, was aboard the Discovery at the time of Captain Pike’s distress call, as was Commander Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green). Burnham was adopted by Spock’s parents when she was still a child, so it will be especially interesting to see how this meeting turns out.

Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery is currently being filmed in Toronto and will start in early 2019. The first season of the series is now available to stream in its entirety on CBS All Access in the United States, and through Netflix in other international markets.
