Tarantino’s “Star Trek” Is Still Years Away

When Quentin Tarantino revealed he had an idea for a “Star Trek” film and was potentially going to direct one, there was some obvious eyebrow-raising. In the time since it seemed the filmmaker was stepping back from the plan, potentially reducing his role to just a producer/story by credit as he concentrated on his 1960s set “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” film instead. That project is currently filming ahead of a 2019 release.

Additionally Paramount is reportedly still pursuing its own fourth film in the Abrams-verse “Star Trek” series which will be set after ‘Beyond’ and potentially use time travel to include the return of Chris Hemsworth as James Kirk’s dad who died in the opening sequence of the 2009 film. S.J. Clarkson has been set to direct that project.

Simon Pegg, who plays Scotty in the new ‘Trek’ films and partly wrote ‘Beyond’, is set to appear in “Star Trek 4” and was asked this week by The Edmonton Journal about the status of both movies. He suggests the Tarantino Trek won’t happen even remotely soon:

The fourth “Star Trek” doesn’t yet have a release date though 2020 would be the earliest opportunity. “The Revenant” scribe Mark L. Smith has been hired to pen the screenplay for the Tarantino one at last report, but story specifics aren’t available.
