First ‘Star Trek Beyond’ Trailer is Here!

Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions have revealed the first official trailer for Star Trek Beyondsooner than originally planned to be shown with Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiering this Thursday.

Featuring the return of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin — joined by new franchise faces, Idris Elba as the film’s villain and Sofia Boutella as the mysterious alien seen above, the movie is set for release on July 22, 2016.

Justin Lin will be taking over for J.J. Abrams as director. Abrams is producing the third film in the rebooted franchise. Check out the trailer below.

The scenes present in the trailer seems to be promoting a lighter tone than the previous two. Looks a bit too much like Guardians of the Galaxy. However, the music ruined it for me.

No official synopsis yet, but Lin told Deadline that the Enterprise crew will finally embark on the famous five-year mission. “They haven’t really gone on their five-year mission so what we experienced in the TV show hasn’t been touched on yet. That sets up an opportunity for exploration and the deeper you go, the more you are examining humanity.” It will also focus on “creating whole new worlds and species.” And Pegg said that his approach was to “make a Western or a thriller or a heist movie, then populate that with Star Trek characters so it’s more inclusive to an audience that might be a little bit reticent.”
