Simon Pegg Promises “Spirit of the TV Show” in STAR TREK 3

During a roundtable to promote the upcoming Kill Me Three Times, Star Trek and Mission: Impossible star Simon Pegg has been dropping a couple of hints about the direction that his script for Star Trek 3 is taking.

Pegg replaced Roberto Orci earlier this year and will co-write the next Star Trek movie with the help of “Dark Blue” co-creator Doug Jung. He hasn’t read Orci’s earlier draft for the feature, but here’s what he hopes to bring to the script:

Yeah, he’s a man brilliant to boot, I totally agree. He definitely gets the spirit of The Original Series, but I’ll believe it when I see it…so…let’s see if he’s able to put in into a script with so little time.

Star Trek 3 currently has a July 8, 2016 release date, but production start date hasn’t yet been given. As we shared yesterday, Idris Elba is in talks to play the main villain, but no details were given about his character too. Pegg will also be back as Scotty alongside Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness stars Chris Pine (Captain Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock), Karl Urban (Bones), Zoe Saldana (Uhura) and Anton Yelchin (Chekov), who are all expected to return as the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Justin Lin will direct the third installment.

Never too late to right a ship.
