Quentin Tarantino's Star Trek movie would be R-rated, says director

In news that will surprise approximately no-one, acclaimed (and provocative) director Quentin Tarantino has promised that any Star Trek film he's involved with will be sweary.

Very sweary.

Ahead of the release of his ninth film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Tarantino spoke to Empire about the Oscar winner's long-rumoured take on Star Trek, weeks after he first confirmed that a script officially exists.

When asked if his Star Trek would be heavy on expletives, Tarantino replied: "Oh yeah! It's an R-rated movie. If I do it, it'll be R-rated."

Echoing his earlier vague comments about the film's future, he added: "There's a script that exists for it now. I need to weigh in on it, but I haven't been able to do that yet."

Tarantino's R-rated take on the Star Trek universe isn't shrouded in total secrecy, of course, as Karl Urban – aka Enterprise doctor Leonard 'Bones' McCoy – previously revealed.

"I know a little bit about what that is, and it's bananas," Karl said last year. What's that about it not being "Pulp Fiction in space", Simon Pegg?

Whether QT's Star Trek vision is "bananas" or more sedate, we just hope it follows in the footsteps of his latest project – after all, it's not every day that you get a six-minute standing ovation at Cannes.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will arrive on July 26 in the US and then hit UK cinemas on August 14.
