The Orville announces plans for San Diego Comic-Con 2019

Fresh from the announcement of its third season renewal, The Orville is headed to San Diego Comic-Con with a sneak peek at Season 3.

It is well known that The Orville is heavily influenced by Star Trek. Creator Seth McFarlane has said in the past that the series is a love letter to Star Trek and includes many people who worked on The Next Generation, including Brannon Braga.

And much like The Next Generation, after two seasons The Orville is really beginning to hit its stride and find its voice. The show is quickly becoming less of a homage to Star Trek and growing into a show that can stand on its own. The Orville will always be associated with Star Trek, but it is forming a legacy and continuity all its own.

This year Disney has announced that The Orville is heading to San Diego Comic-Con 2019 for a star-studded panel that will take a look back at Season 2 as well as give attendees a sneak peek at what’s coming in the third season.

The Orville panel is taking place on Saturday, July 20 in Ballroom 20 and will include McFarlane as well as Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, Jessica Szohr, J Lee, Mark Jackson, and Chad L. Coleman. In addition producers David A. Goodman, Jon Cassar, and Braga will also be in attendance.

It will be a busy day for McFarlane, as before he takes the stage at The Orville panel he will be attending panels covering his two hit animated comedies, American Dad and Family Guy.

Together the group will discuss the highly successful just completed Season 2 with some behind the scenes information and material never seen before. And then fans will get a first look at the upcoming third season of The Orville.

The third season of The Orville is a chance for the series to leave the comparisons to Star Trek behind and become something unto itself. Most will agree that the show has tremendous potential, with many fans saying it is more true to Star Trek than Star Trek: Discovery. And while that is debatable, there is no question The Orville is a great series that deserves to succeed.
