CBS releases new key art for Star Trek: Picard

In anticipation of San Diego Comic-Con next week, CBS All Access has released a brand new poster to hype the upcoming debut of Star Trek: Picard.

In the movie business, one of the first things to arrive to get people excited for a new film is the official movie poster. It can be just a logo or something more dynamic, but this is usually the first step toward building some hype around your project.

In television, they don’t have movie posters since those projects aren’t usually movies. Instead, studios have what they call key art.

The difference between the two? Absolutely nothing.

On Wednesday CBS All Access released the first piece of key art for Star Trek: Picard. They did so in anticipation of the “Enter the Star Trek Universe” panel with will be taking place at San Diego Comic-Con on July 20 in the hallowed confines of Hall H.

The Picard portion of the panel, which will also cover Star Trek: Lower Decks and the third season of Star Trek: Discovery, will include Sir Patrick Stewart, Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera and Harry Treadaway as well as executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman and Heather Kadin.

It is generally expected that attendees will get to see the first full trailer for Picard at the panel, which will hopefully make its way online shortly afterward.

Of course, the first thing many fans are noticing as soon as they see the poster is the fact that Picard now apparently has a dog. If you look closely you will see that the tag on the dog, which is shaped like the Starfleet insignia, says “No. 1”

The poster itself is gorgeous but doesn’t give much away about what fans can expect in the series. It effectively is just a poster version of the trailer that was released last month. Except for the addition of the dog obviously.

The fact that the dog in the poster is a pit bull should come as no surprise. Stewart’s love of fostering pit bulls is well documented and they have become a regular part of his social media presence.
