“Star Trek: Discovery” Warps 5 Saturn Awards, 4 Emmy Noms

Things continue to go beyond transwarp speed as the CBS All Access TV series Star Trek: Discovery nabbed five Saturn Award nominations, matching its nominations in 2018. The sixth live action Star Trek won three Saturn Awards including Best Actress on Television for star Sonequa Martin-Green, Best Actor on Television for Jason Isaacs and Best New Media Television Series.

Given the increased amount of original content on streaming platforms, Discovery finds itself in the newly-created category of Best Streaming Science Fiction, Action, & Fantasy this year – competing with the likes of Black Mirror (Netflix), The Expanse (Amazon), Lost in Space (Netflix), Good Omens (Amazon), Russian Doll (Netflix), and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan (Amazon).

Martin-Green returns with her second Saturn Award nomination in the Best Actress in Streaming Presentation category – competing with Carla Gugino for The Haunting of Hill House (Netflix), Elizabeth Lail for You (Netflix/Lifetime), Natasha Lyonne for Russian Doll, Molly Parker for Lost in Space (Netflix), Krysten Ritter for Marvel’s Jessica Jones (Netflix), and Kiernan Shipka for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Netflix).

Three Discovery actors are in the running for Best Supporting Actor in Streaming Presentation: Wilson Cruz, Doug Jones, and Ethan Peck. Aside from each other, the trio are competing against Michiel Huisman and Timothy Hutton for The Haunting of Hill House (Netflix); Maxwell Jenkins for Lost in Space (Netflix), and Michael Sheen for Good Omens (Amazon).

Star Trek: Discovery was also nominated for the following 2019 Primetime Emmy Award categories:

Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup For A Series, Limited Series, Movie Or Special
