Quentin Tarantino Says His ‘Star Trek’ Will Be ‘Pulp Fiction in Space’

Quentin Tarantino keep insisting that he really might make a Star Trekmovie. And he’s saying it so much ... I’m starting to believe him? At first it sounded too good and too weird to be true. But Tarantino doesn’t dodge the question when he’s asked in interviews. He seems genuinely excited about the possibility of making a Star Trek movie.

Take his new interview about Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in Deadline. He goes on for several minutes about Star Trek; why he loves it (he’s a huge William Shatner fan) why he loved the recent J.J. Abrams movies (Chris Pine did a perfect Shatner), and what he wants to make for his version of the series. If it seems impossible that Tarantino might turn Star Trek into a “Tarantino movie” — lots of intertwining stories, violence, profanity, revenge — but, he disagrees. In fact, he says that’s exactly what he’s looking to make:

“Do you know what they call a Quarter Pounder with Cheese on Vulcan? They call it a patem-sai with cheese!” And so on.

Seriously, though, I am all for this idea. If you want a more traditional Star Trek, you’ve got Star Trek: Discovery on CBS All Access. Let Tarantino make Pulp Fiction in Space. That would be something truly unique.
