Star Trek: Picard bosses hints at appearances from other The Next Generation character

Earlier this month, Star Trek fans rejoiced as a brand new Picard spin-off starring Patrick Steward was announced – and it seems Stewart might not be the only star returning to the fold.

When asked about the possible reprisal of any other Next Generation roles, executive producer Alex Kurtzman has insisted he isn't going to rule anything out. However, he said it's most important to make sure that nobody is brought back unnecessarily.

"What we don't want to do is just throw in cameos," he told Entertainment Weekly. "There would have to be an incredibly specific story reason [for them to be there]."

Let's hope Kurtzman and showrunner Michael Chabon come up with some incredible reasons to reunite all the Star Trek stars.

Last month, Digital Spy caught up with Star Trek: The Next Generation starMarina Sirtis – who played half-Betazoid empath Deanna Troi – and the actress says she's more than willing to get involved in the upcoming Picard project.

"If they ask me, I would love to be in it," she said. "But I have to be honest, the phone hasn't rung yet, so I'm not holding my breath.

"But I'd love to do it – as long as I don't have to wear that spacesuit again, because I've put on a bit of weight since then, and I don't fancy going to the fat farm to lose it all again!"

She also expressed her excitement about the show, and support for her former co-star Stewart. "I'm excited to see Patrick as Picard again because I think he was bloody brilliant in that character."

Star Trek: Picard will air onCBS All Access in the US and Amazon Prime Video internationally, including the UK.
