Brand New Star Trek: Picard Trailer Teases Data’s Return

Saturday’s San Diego Comic-Con really belongs to Star Trek and Patrick Stewart.

The Hollywood veteran returned to Hall H this afternoon for a Trek-verse extravaganza, announcing the return of Brent Spiner (Data), Jonathan Del Arco (Riker), Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, and Voyager‘s Jeri Ryan for Star Trek: Picard, the spinoff series set to premiere via CBS All Access early next year.

And what’s a Hall H presentation without a brand new trailer to bring the house down? Turns out that’s exactly what CBS had planned for SDCC attendees, as above you’ll be able to lay your eyes on the first full trailer for Picard. He may be the star attraction, but Trekkies will no doubt fawn over Data and a few other familiar faces from Trek‘s history, as well.

Upon debuting the footage, and essentially dropping the mic, Picard‘s executive producer Alex Kurtzman told the crowd that Patrick Stewart’s franchise icon is the “leader we all need. Picard is still standing up for what matters. Standing up for what we believe in.”

Rubbing shoulders with Stewart, Spiner and some of the other Next Generation crew are Santiago Cabrera (Merlin) as a pilot and Michelle Hurd (Law and Order: SVU) as an intelligence officer. Alison Pill (American Horror Story) and Harry Treadaway (Penny Dreadful), meanwhile, have climbed aboard in unspecified roles.

The show itself will seemingly be “more lyrical, more character-focused” than Star Trek: The Next Generation. At least, that’s according to executive producer Akiva Goldsman, who also reminded SDCC attendees that the overall tone will be vastly different than that of Discovery, another CBS All Access series currently on the verge of its third season.

But for Patrick Stewart and Co., a maiden voyage awaits. Look for Star Trek: Picard to blast off in early 2020.
