Shazad Latif gives an update on Star Trek: Section 31

In a new interview, Shazad Latif gives an update on the status of the Discovery spinoff Star Trek: Section 31 and when fans can expect to see it.

Between San Diego Comic-Con and Star Trek Las Vegas, the past few weeks have brought with them a veritable smorgasbord of Trekverse news, information and more. A new trailer for Star Trek: Picard, character information for Star Trek: Lower Decks and the return of Pike and the Enterprise in new Star Trek: Short Treks seemed like it was just the tip of the iceberg.

However, one project that was barely mentioned was Star Trek: Section 31, which is what we’re going to call the series instead of “The As-yet Untitled Star Trek show featuring Section 31.”

The Star Trek: Discovery spinoff, which will star Michelle Yeoh as the Mirror Universe version of Georgiou and feature the clandestine organization first introduced in Deep Space Nine, hasn’t made any real news since it was announced back in January. Which isn’t all that shocking considering just how many Star Trek projects are now in some form of production.

Now another likely cast member of Section 31 has explained why that is and updated the timeline when fans may finally see the series on CBS All Access.

Shazad Latif, who played Ash Tyler/Vog and who was put in charge of Section 31 in the Discovery season finale, recently spoke to the fine folks at Trekkie Girls while appearing at London Film and Comic Con. When asked about the status of Section 31, he said everything is still very up in the air at the moment, but news should be coming down the road.

So might we see Ash Tyler in a Short Treks episode to help tide fans over until Section 31 is ready to debut? Don’t hold your breath.

Currently Michelle Yeoh is set to be a part of Discovery Season 3 which is currently in production. As for if we will see any more of Ash Tyler before the spinoff arrives, fans will just have to wait and see.

Hopefully this time next year we will have a ton of new Star Trek: Section 31 news to report but until then, Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 is tentatively scheduled for sometime later in 2020. Section 31 will likely arrive after that at some point in 2021.
