New Star Trek: Picard TV spot teases Data connection

We’re now mere weeks away from the CBS All Access premiere of Star Trek: Picard which will see Patrick Stewart return to one of his most iconic roles as Jean-Luc Picard. In the latest TV spot, the new footage is overplayed by a cover version of Irving Berlin’s song ‘Blue Skies’ – a song which bears a lot of significance to Picard and The Next Generation fans. Watch the spot below…

In Star Trek: Nemesis, which up until now was the final time the Next Generation cast was together on film, Brent Spiner’s Data sings the song at the wedding of Will Riker and Deanna Troi and is later used to tease the possibility that Data may not have completely died in his noble sacrifice to save Picard and the Enterprise during the film’s climax. Paired with Spiner’s brief appearances in the previous trailers, could the song’s inclusion in this new spot suggest we may learn more about the remnants of Data’s consciousness he left in his ‘brother’ B-4? Might he have anything to do with the secret mission Picard is undertaking?

Star Trek: Picard sees franchise veterans Patrick Stewart (Picard), Brent Spiner (Data), Jonathan Frakes (Riker), Marina Sirtis (Troi) and Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine) joined in the cast by Santiago Cabera (Salvation), Michelle Hurd (Blindspot), Alison Pill (The Newsroom), Harry Treadaway (Mr. Mercedes), Isa Briones (Takers) and Evan Evagora (Fantasy Island).

Star Trek: Picard is set to premiere on Thursday, January 23rd 2020.
