Star Trek: Noah Hawley Has His Own Take On Next Star Trek Movie

Since the last Star Trek movie didn’t perform that well at the box office, the future of the franchise on film has been sketchy at best. Setting the Quentin Tarantino aside, we have not had an idea of when we might see the next Trek movie appear, however, we learned back in November that Noah Hawley would be on writing/directing duties for the fourth modern Star Trek movie.

Nothing was known about whether this movie would be a sort of reboot, or whether the cast of the Bad Robot Star Trek movies would be making a return. Hawley recently spoke with Deadline about his upcoming projects and it’s still not clear how he will shape this new movie.

As to whether it will connect with the TV work of Alex Kurtzman,

I do get the feeling that this could be a complete reboot on the way from Hawley and as a Trek fan who hasn’t enjoyed the new movies, I appreciate Hawley’s take on it. Star Trek films are not action movies and I think the mistake made with this franchise recently has been trying to capture a more casual audience by being more action-oriented. The problem with that is the increase in budget also leads to higher box office expectations. No matter how much like Star Wars you try to make Star Trek, it will never work, because audiences will go see a bad Star Wars movie in far greater numbers than they will go to see a good Star Trek movie.

I am therefore keen to see what Hawley comes up with for this Star Trek movie, and it already sounds better to me than what we have had most recently. As to when we are likely to see this movie, who knows, as clearly Hawley is in the early stages of the scripting process right now.

What do you think about Hawley’s comments, would a reboot be a bad idea, or would they be right to change up the cast? Let us know what you think in the usual spot below.
