‘Star Trek: Picard’ Season 2 Confirmed by CBS All Access

Ahead of its debut, CBS All Access confirmed that “Star Trek: Picard” has been renewed for a second season.

The announcement was made Sunday during the Television Critics Association press tour. Terry Matalas is joining the second season as an executive producer. In addition, “Star Trek” alum Wil Wheaton will host an aftershow called “The Ready Room,” which will kick for Season 1.

The series, which sees Patrick Stewart return as captain Jean-Luc Picard from “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” premieres on Jan. 23. “Picard” follows the character in the next chapter in his life after hanging up his Starfleet badge and retreating to his family’s vineyard.

Alongside Stewart, the series also stars Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera, Michelle Hurd, Alison Pill, Harry Treadaway and Evan Evagora. “Next Generation” alums Brent Spiner (Data), Jonathan Del Arco (Hugh the Borg), Jonathan Frakes (Commander Riker) and Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi) will all reprise their roles, as will “Star Trek: Voyager’s” Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine).

The series is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Stewart, Alex Kurtzman, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, James Duff, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth serve as executive producers, with Aaron Baiers (Secret Hideout) serving as co-executive producer and Kirsten Beyer as supervising producer. Hanelle Culpepper directed the first two episodes of the series.

“Picard” Season 2 was among the latest batch of 16 TV projects that will split $152 million in California tax credits, the California Film Commission announced in December.
