Star Trek: The Next Generation “The Best of Both Worlds” Coming to Theaters

When it was first announced last year that CBS Paramount would promote the Blu-ray Disc release of Star Trek: The Next Generation Season One last year, one of the first reactions across fandom was hope that this would lead us to a big screen showing of the iconic two-parter, “The Best of Both Worlds”. Yesterday, CBS Paramount announced that in addition to TNG Season Three hitting Blu-ray on April 30th, they are also releasing a single-disc Blu-ray presenting “The Best of Both Worlds” cut together as a 90-minute feature.

Still, there was no word about a big screen presentation in any of the Blu-ray Disc announcements. It turns out, though, that Cinemark theaters are already selling tickets to a one-night screening! “The Best of Both Worlds” will play Thursday, April 25th at 7:00. In addition to the main feature, attendees will also get to see a nearly 30 minute “Look Behind-the-Scenes”. The pricing indicates that like the previous two theatrical screenings for TNG Blu-ray releases, “The Best of Both Worlds” will be a Fathom Event, but at present there’s nothing about this on Fathom’s website.

Consensus holds that Star Trek: First Contact has always been the best of the TNG movies, and it stands atop those four features on Flickchart. How excited are you to finally see Captain Picard’s original showdown with the Borg on the big screen?

Star Trek: The Next Generation “The Best of Both Worlds” plays select theaters April 25th at 7:00 and releases on Blu-ray Disc April 30th.
