Star Trek: Data & Borg Queen Definitely Had Sex, Confirms Jonathan Frakes

Star Trek: First Contact director Jonathan Frakes has confirmed that Data (Brent Spiner) and the Borg Queen (Alice Krige) definitely had sex in the 1996 movie. Starring the crew of Star Trek: The Next Generation, First Contact is the second movie featuring the cast and the first Frakes would direct. In addition to directing, Frakes also plays Commander Will Riker, First Office on the Enterprise.

Both Frakes and Spiner recently returned to their roles as Riker and Data for the CBS All-Access series Star Trek: Picard starring Patrick Stewart. Though not actually a sequel to The Next Generation, the series centers on the former Enterprise captain, Jean-Luc Picard, and it sees him reunite with a few former shipmates. Picard marks the first time Stewart, Frakes, Spiner, and Marina Sirtis, who returned as Deanna Troi, had played their Star Trek characters since the final movie in the Next Gen series, Star Trek: Nemesis. Picard is returning for a season 2 with Stewart again in the lead. It's unknown exactly who, if any, other Next Gen stars might also return, but Frakes is at least returning to direct, as he also did in season 1 and has done on various Star Trek projects since First Contact.

Frakes recently took part in IGN's Watch From Home Theater screening of Star Trek: First Contact and was asked about Data and the Borg Queen and whether or not they, you know, did it. In the movie, the Borg Queen seduces Data in order to gain access to the Enterprise, and it includes a rather infamous scene of Data telling her he is "fully-functional" before they kiss. The scene then cuts away, leaving it to audiences' imaginations as to what actually happens next. When IGN asked if Frakes understood the scene as implying Data and the Borg Queen had sex, he replied with a grin, "I would." They followed up by asking if this was ever discussed on set and Frakes replied, "Yes," but that's all he would say.

First Contact proceeds to make it appear as if Data has truly sided with the Borg Queen, but of course, in the end he betrays her and helps the Enterprise crew stop the Borg. Still, the moment when it appears all is lost and Data is truly giving himself over to the Borg is an iconic one in the movie. And then, there's the fact that no one can ever forget the shocking sight of Data and the Borg Queen making out. Now, fans can thank Frakes for further enlightening them what goes on next. Even if they didn't really want to know, well, now they do.
