Sex Education star T'Nia Miller reveals why she turned role down twice

Sex Education is one of Netflix's biggest original shows and that's why it's bizarre when we discover some of the cast actually initially turned down their roles.

T'Nia Miller, who played the iconic chairman of Moordale Secondary School, Maxine Tarrington, in season two, originally turned down an audition for it not once, but twice.

The reason why? Because it was one of her favourite shows.

In an exclusive chat with Digital Spy, Miller revealed that she won't be returning for season three, but she's happy to become a fan of the show again and be able to watch it spoiler-free.

"No, I'm not involved in season three. They're actually shooting that right now, I believe. So I'm not coming back, but that's OK, because I get to watch it.

"In fact, when they asked me to come and read for it I was like, 'No, I'm not going into Sex Ed for a cameo. It's one of my favourite shows. I don't want to spoil the mystery of it!'

"I just want to delve right into that world and be immersed in that whole experience of these different characters. I don't want to meet everybody and know the scripts in advance. I'll never watch season two. I'll never watch it."

She continued: "Anyway, they asked me three times. I went, 'Alright, go on then.'

"So I did, and I'm so glad I did, because, honestly, what a gorgeous cast. Those kids are phenomenal — they're humble, they're funny, and they're hard-working."

The actress said she's happy she gets to go back to being a viewer, but that also means she has to watch herself in season two, which she hasn't actually done yet.

"I think there's benefits to both, to be honest. I'm so glad I did that. I had the best time. I really did.

"But equally, I get to watch it, right? So that means I have to watch season two, because I have to watch season three."

Miller might be bowing out as the most terrifying adult in Moordale, but there are some new additions to the cast for season three to look forward to.

Harry Potter and Star Trek: Discovery star Jason Isaacs will be playing Peter Groff, Michael's older and more successful brother who he's been staying with since his separation from his wife Maureen (Samantha Spiro).

Girls star Jemima Kirke will appear in Moordale as the school's new headmistress, and gender nonconforming recording artist and songwriter Dua Saleh will make their acting debut playing nonbinary student Cal.

Sex Education is available to stream on Netflix.
