The teaser is short (50 seconds) and does just that. Tease.

“CBS Studios debuted a teaser trailer and revealed the logo for the new Star Trek series today at the CBS upfront presentation for advertisers at Carnegie Hall in New York City,” a statement from CBS said, “Les Moonves introduced the first elements for the show, which will premiere in January 2017.”

During the teaser, a new logo is shown off for Star Trek. There was no subtitle to the name of the show. Worth noting is that the logo is very reminiscent of the films by J.J. Abrams, particularly the lettering. People have speculated that the show is set in the new movie universe, possibly having cameos of the new actors such as Zachary Quinto and Chris Hines.

The show will have Bryan Fuller as the show runner and executive producer while Alex Kurtzman will serve as executive producer and Nicholas Meyer as the writer and consulting producer. Production is set to start on Star Trek this fall in Toronto.

Star Trek will be Bryan Fuller’s first gig as showrunner since Hannibal was canceled after a phenomenal run on NBC in 2015. This will be a whole different ball game and it will be interesting to see if Fuller can bring in some of that great character development he brought on in Hannibal.

Though Star Trek isn’t set to premiere in 2017, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the original show’s inception in 1966. Many events and content are being released such as the sequel to Into Darkness, Star Trek Beyond this summer. Expect more information this summer during San Diego Comic Con and closer to the start of production.
