Jason Isaacs Is The Next Star Trek Captain

CBS’ Star Trek: Discovery has had quite a few start-up issues, but it seems like the show is up, running, and gaining some momentum. The newest addition to the cast list was announced earlier this week and he is stepping right out of the wizarding world. Harry Potter’s Jason Isaacs, Lucious Malfoy, will be taking the captain’s seat.

Jason Isaacs posted a tweet earlier this week announcing his newest role in Star Trek: Discovery. The tweet contained a picture of the captain’s chair from the USS Discovery with a comment saying, “My new chair. Looks comfy.” Oddly enough, Isaacs deleted the tweet a short while later, but CBS later confirmed that he would be playing Captain Lorca in Star Trek: Discovery. Unlike past renditions of the Star Trek series, this series will not focus on the captain as its main character. Instead, an unnamed lieutenant will be featured as the lead role according to the former showrunner, Bryan Fuller.

Jason Issacs is just the latest addition to this already stellar cast list. A few months back, Sonequa Martin-Green, Sasha Williams from AMC’s The Walking Deadannounced that she will be playing the female lead in the show. According to CBS, Isaacs and Martin-Green will also be joined by Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Anthony Rapp (Rent), and Doug Jones (Hellboy) in Star Trek: Discovery.

The newest addition to the Star Trek saga has not had the easiest time getting the show off of the ground this past year. The show was dealt a few harsh blows with some production and casting issues as well as losing its showrunner. However, CBS remains positive and confident. The broadcasting station announced that the show will begin in late fall of 2017.  While the pilot of the show will premiere on regular television, Star Trek: Discovery will be available on CBS’ streaming service, All Access.
