Star Trek: Discovery Already Renewed for a Second Season

If you were curious as to how the newest installment of Star Trek was doing, look no further than the recent news regarding the TV show. The day after episode six of Star Trek: Discovery season one, CBS has announced that the show has already been renewed for a second.

So far, the show has received mixed reviews from Trekkies and non-Trekkie critics alike, but CBS interactive president and chief operating officer Marc DeBevoise is confident in the product and the team behind it.

So far, Star Trek: Discovery has only been available in the United States for users who are subscribed to CBS’s All Access program. The service, which launched back in 2014, costs $5.99 per month, also featuring a second option at $9.99 for advertising-free streaming content.

According to CBS, the series has broken every record (single day, week, month) it’s qualified for regarding the service in terms of new subscriber signups. Those numbers beat out both previous all access programs in Big Brother: Over the Top and The Good Fight.

The first half of season one of Star Trek: Discovery will conclude on November 12, 2017, with the second seven episodes returning in January 2018. There is no word on when the second season will begin filming, let alone airing.
