Simon Pegg Gives Update on Star Trek 4

New updates on Star Trek 4 have come to light. Simon Pegg gave a small status on the project. Things look to be quite promising though he indicates that film is still in its infancy. “As far as I know, we are pushing ahead,” Pegg says. “We are in prep, I think, for it, but then there’s so much to do before we start shooting, like making sure everybody is available.”

Recent reports from Paramount Pictures say the hope is for the film to begin shooting on the next Star Trek movie in January. Most likely London and Atlanta will be the filming sites. There was no official announcement to who the cast is or even how the film will go.  But given the lack of alterations to the cast, the film may stay in the Kelvin-Timeline. Casting may also include a new fierce female addition.

Eyes are on Black Panther and The Walking Dead star Danai Gurirafor one of two major new female characters in the film. Gurira is also in negotiations to star in Godzilla vs. Kong, which begins filming in early October. Depending on how long those shoots last and when this may keep her out of the Star Trek sequel or alter production plans further.

According to Pegg availability may become a big issue with cast members. Zoe Saldana, who plays Nyota Uhura in Star Trek, also plays Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  With Director James Gunns being fired may alter the plans for the new Guardians of the Galaxy volume 3. Expected to begin filming in early 2019 as well.

Star Trek 4 will reunite the cast that includes Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, and Pegg. Expect to see Chris Hemsworth reprise his role as George Kirk, Captain James Kirk’s father, who died in the opening scene of 2009’s Star Trek when he rammed the USS Kelvin into the time-displaced Romulan vessel the Narada.

The fourth film will remain in the Kelvin-Timeline,” the alternate timeline caused by the Narada’s trip backward in time as seen in the 2009 film. In 2013 the following film Star Trek Into Darkness and then Star Trek Beyond in 2016.

Rumors were confirmed for a fourth film right before Star Trek Beyond premiered. However, Paramount went silent on the production for over a year after Star Trek Beyond underperformed at the box office. Paramount sought to change executive leadership to alter box office results, and now its back on track.
