Star Trek: Discovery has been renewed for season 3 with another behind-the-scenes change

CBS All Access' Star Trek: Discoveryhas been commissioned for season 3.

This'll be more than welcome news for loyal Trekkies out there; the second season only debuted last month after all, so you just know that the channel bosses are impressed with what they're seeing.

However, there's been a big change behind the scenes on Discovery, as The Hollywood Reporterconfirmed that season 2 writer Michelle Paradise has been promoted to co-showrunner for the third outing.

The sci-fi show appears to have a revolving door of creatives attached to it; with the likes of Bryan Fuller, Aaron Harberts and Gretchen Berg all leaving team at some stage.

Speaking with admiration for his new showrunning partner, co-creator Alex Kurtzman had this to say about Michelle: "Michelle joined us midway through season two and energised the room with her ferocious knowledge of Trek.

"Her grasp of character and story detail, her drive and her focus have already become essential in ensuring the Trek legacy, and her fresh perspective always keeps us looking forward," he continued.

"I'm proud to say Michelle and I are officially running Star Trek: Discovery together."

Executive vice president of originals at CBS All Access, Julie McNamara, also noted: "The massive success of Star Trek: Discovery's second season launch exceeded our expectations in both driving subscriber growth and generating a phenomenal response from Star Trek fans.

"With Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise at the helm, we look forward to continuing Star Trek: Discovery's journey, growing the Star Trek franchise on CBS All Access and bringing fans new Star Trek stories for many years to come."

Star Trek: Discovery airs on CBS All Access in the US and Netflix internationally, including the UK.
