Star Trek's Picard spin-off casts another series regular in top-secret role

Star Trek's new series based on Sir Patrick Stewart's Jean-Luc Picard has added another new cast member to its roster.

The show is already shaping up nicely with Santiago Cabrera and Michelle Hurd previously announced as cast additions.

Now newcomer Evan Evagora (who will appear in 2020's Fantasy Island) has come on board in an undisclosed role, according to Deadline.

Of course, everything about the series is under wraps at the moment, with the only details being that it will focus on Stewart's classic Star Trek character.

The actor will reunite with his Next Generation co-star Jonathan Frakes on the series, though the latter will be behind the camera, while the first two episodes will be directed by Hanelle Culpepper, who will become the first female director to launch a Star Trek show.

He recently suggested that the programme could run for at least three seasons, teasing: "Oh lord, we are set up for possibly three years of this show, so if there is a film, it's a long way off."

Stewart also spoke a bit about how the show will deal with the fact it has been 20 years since his last appearance in Star Trek: Nemesis.

"In returning to Star Trek later in the year, the one thing that will be different about this version of Star Trek is that we have simply moved the whole narrative 20 years from when I last wore Jean-Luc's uniform," he said.

"So, everything has aged. When the series gets released, you will see things are very different from what they are."

Picard's untitled series doesn't have an air date just yet, but you can catch Discovery on CBS All Access in the US and on Netflix a day later in the UK.
