Star Trek: Discovery axes Captain Pike ahead of tragedy as Anson Mount bows out after one season
Star Trek: Discovery is making a wee cast cull following season two and, we can’t believe we’re saying this, but Captain Pike will be bowing out over the coming weeks.
Both Anson Mount and Rebecca Romijn, who plays Pike’s shipmate number one, will be leaving Star Trek: Discovery after just one season each.
According to Deadline, Mount and Romjin signed one year deals ‘as part of a plan to sync up Discovery with the original Star Trek lore by the end of Season two’.
And long-term fans of the sci-fi franchise will know that eventually Pike will be struck with tragedy, as the original Star Trek series features the captain paralysed and mute.
Showrunner Alex Kurtzman previously teased Discovery fans will, unfortunately, witness the horrific events unfold as we finally delve into Pike’s backstory.
‘This season we get inside his character in a way that we didn’t get to do in the films,’ he also told Deadline.
‘And the fact that we will synchronise with canon by the end of this season, that means we may see shades of where we all know Pike will end up.’
Great.
As it stands, no other exits have been leaked but Ethan Peck also joined Discovery during its latest chapter as Spock, immediately causing all sorts of controversy with his beard.
But surely bosses will know we can’t take anymore, right?
Star Trek: Discovery season 2 episodes are released on Netflix every Friday and air on CBS in the US.
