Star Trek: Discovery's Sonequa Martin-Green lands huge role in Space Jam 2
Star Trek: Discoveryactress Sonequa Martin-Green has reportedly landed a huge role in the upcoming Space Jam 2.
According to Variety, Sonequa will play LeBron James' wife in the reboot, which is scheduled to hit cinemas on July 16, 2021.
Sonequa currently stars as Michael Burnham on Star Trek: Discovery and previously played Sasha Williams on The Walking Dead.
Space Jam 2 will see LeBron taking over from Michael Jordan, who fronted the original 1996 movie.
It will be produced byBlack Panther's Ryan Coogler and directed by Random Acts of Flyness creator Terence Nance.
Back in September, LeBron's childhood friend and filmmaking partner Maverick Carter made it clear that the film will be a reboot and not a sequel to the original film.
"There's already been one that was good, we gotta make a film that's great," he told The Hollywood Reporter.
Discussing potentially including Michael Jordan in the project, he added: "Hopefully there will be a role for Michael if he wants it. But Michael Jordan is Michael F**kin' Jordan. It doesn't matter [if LeBron] calls him, he's gonna do whatever the hell he wants, which he has earned that right to do.
"LeBron and Michael are not sitting around talking about Space Jam."
LeBron has also spoken about how he chose Ryan Coogler to produce the reboot.
"The Space Jam collaboration is so much more than just me and the Looney Tunes getting together and doing this movie," he shared. "It's so much bigger. I'd just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don't just give up on their dreams.
"And I think Ryan [Coogler] did that for a lot of people."
Space Jam 2 is scheduled for release on July 16, 2021.
