Star Trek Discovery spoilers: Shazad Latif explains why there is no way back for Tyler and Burnham

Star Trek: Discovery star Shazad Latif doesn’t think there’s any way back for former lovers Ash Tyler an Michael Burnham.

Latif says Ash ‘wants to hurt people less’ and keeps himself to himself, acting as a guardian for Burnham rather than a lover.

He told CBS’ The Ready Room: ‘I think they are always going to have a place in each other’s hearts. There is a love there, but since that trust has been broken, I think it is hard to come back from.

‘But I think they are always going to find time…She is going through so much – she is going through so many emotional things.

‘I think it is too much for someone to take. But he will always try to protect her, now.

‘He is more like a guardian now. He will always make sure he doesn’t hurt her anymore.’

The actor joked that things could change ‘if they got drunk together’.

Latif also explained Ash’s hairy new look, as the character has traded his clean shaven image for shaggy hair and a full beard.

‘I asked to grow my hair long because if he is with the Klingons and there for six months, he doesn’t have time to go to the hairdresser,’ he explained.

‘He was trying to be an ambassador there saying “I am one of you, I don’t look like you anymore, but I’ll grow my hair”.’
