STAR TREK BEYOND Title Confirmed; First Set Photo Revealed

To celebrate the start of production of Star Trek3, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana both shared photos to kick off their return to Gene Roddenberry‘s lost universe. Director Justin Lin joined in on the fun and took to Twitter to confirm the new title of the film, which is Star Trek Beyond.

Lin also tweeted our first look at the film in the form of the new Starfleet uniform. He’d previously hinted the plot will follow the U.S.S. Enterprise as it begins its 5-year mission, which will explore new worlds that fans have never seen in the movies and TV shows.

Hope Lin does a better job with this than Season 2 of “True Detective.” Star Trek Beyond is set for a July 8, 2016 release, in time for the franchise’s 50 anniversary. Chris Pine, Anton Yelchin and John Cho also return along with newcomers Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella playing currently undisclosed roles. Let’s take a look at Lin’s tweet below.

If someone doesn’t immediately know what “LLAP” means, the late Leonard Nimoy ended all of his tweets with it. “LLAP” is shorthand for “live long and prosper,” the Vulcan aphorism that became Mr. Spock’s — and, thus, Nimoy’s own — catchphrase.
